I took a 2000 IU dose of Vitamin D and same night had a strange metallic taste , saliva was thinner then normal, and stomach problems. I stopped taking it that day. then after for the next 2 weeks I still having the taste problem and stomach issue lasted 1 week. I went to the dr. he said might be infection or covid but All my blood work came normal and negitove for covid. I have high cholesterol and low vit d on the test showed 12ng or something.

I stopped take the pills and 3 weeks I started feeling ok metal taste going away, now the dr gave me vit d3 smaller does 1000 ui and now I have that metallic taste and my salavia is very thin. What is happening ?

Did you check your D3 levels before you started taking it? You might be getting enough from your diet. 2000IU is quite a lot if you don’t need much. Also are you taking K2 with it? I don’t have any side effects but I test regularly to see what my levels are. Also do you take it with a ‘fatty’ meal? You need to do that.I take anything from 1000-3000IU depending on my level. I’ve never been ridiculously high either and even with exposure to a lot of sun I still need to supplement to keep my levels up. I like /need to keep them well up because I have osteoporosis.

Was this vitamin d tablet called Fultium? as |I could not take that, made me feel very nauseous. this seemed to be all the doctor would offer. I now buy my own capsules and have no trouble at all.

A couple of possibilities are that you reacted to a filler in the vitamin D or more likely are low in magnesium which may well make you unable to tolerate or use it. Better You magnesium is very good, I found. You may do better with a cleaner form of Vit D, perhaps a liquid or spray which may be easier to absorb, as your level was so low. Best wishes

you also took calcium supplements, if so it is the culprit for the condition.

Hi, I didn't take any calcium supplements with it.

So my vitamin d levels were 12ng/ml when I first had the metallic taste in middle of jan when my PCP tested me.

Now the metallic taste is less but still feel fatigue ,tired, foggy brain. The endo gave me more blood tests yesterday and vit d is 18ng/ml low , all others are normal which includes calcium , magnesium, phosphates, PTH, cbc and metabolic panel.

Not sure whats wrong with me kinda worried , can it be that i was so deficient in vit D that my body is getting use to getting more vit D thats why I feel strange ?
