I’m struggling!! A year ago I took myself off to see a private psychiatrist about my anxiety and depression, after 10 years on anti-depressants and feeling as though I wasn’t a part of this world. The first thing she said (within the first five minutes!) was that I need T3! I have been successfully taking it for over a year. I took 9 months to wean myself off the ADs and really felt I had my life back.
Three weeks ago I took antibiotics for a bad chest infection. A week later I went into complete meltdown - tears, tantrums, nausea, unable to eat and so cold all the time. I immediately did a blood test to check that all was well in that department - they came back almost unchanged from six weeks prior. They were Medichecks TSH - 0.01, T3 - 5.95, T4 - 16.8. I spoke to my psychiatrist and we decided I should increase my T3 dose by 2.5, which I have done, but have recently felt over medicated so am reducing again. Am not feeling much better and still suffering from nausea. I’m also taking probiotics to help my gut get back to normal.
Although it sounds like a Hashi’s Flare up, apart from the test results, I’m wondering if it’s just a reaction to the antibiotics. Has anyone else experienced a) the same or similar problems with antibiotics, and b) has anyone successfully come off ADs completely when introducing T3? Or do I have to prepare myself for more ADs to keep things under control?
