The Vaccine safe for all of us?

I noticed a few days ago, the long list of fellow thyroid folk who had had their vaccines done, and seemed to have done o.k.

Many were also Hashimotos and also were fine. But I wonder if someone could tell me if they may have had Hashimotos, but also had low Adrenals and also low Thyroid .

Would this scenario be quite safe. I’m due a Vaccine soon so I’d like to hope all will go well ..

thank you !

Hi C70rolI am having the COVID vaccine on Sunday, I am a key worker. I have Congenital Hypothyroidism, however I had Breast cancer a few years ago, under went Chemo, and surprised my Endo, who was concerned in regards to me reacting to chemo. I did not, and got the all clear 9 months post diagnosis.

I had mine yesterday and have not had any 'affects' at all.

Thanks shaws. I was really wondering if autoimmune people with low adrenals. Might have a problem ?

All the evidence is that only those with severe allergies, ie carry an epi pen may have a bad reaction to the vaccine. I volunteered to take part in trials and nothing on my health record precluded me. I do not have Hashimotos but do have a number of other autoimmune conditions. (My hypothyroidism is the result of radio the 1950s. ) It so happened I was in the age category most over subscribed and not selected.

I am fairly certain that as levo is the 2nd/ 3rd most commonly prescribed drug in the UK and that most with hypothyroidism have Hashimotos there will have been a number of trial volunteers with these conditions.

I cannot wait for my opportunity to be vaccinated.

As this vaccine is relatively new, there are no longitudinal studies available as to its effect on people with specific variations of auto-immune disease, so no one can tell you if it is 'safe'

But in terms of short-term effects many people with permutations of thyroid disease (and I assume those who are completely unaware they have Hashimotos) seem to be fine overall.

I shall not personally be having it until I feel physically better or I may not have it at all. I had 3 years of immunotherapy for my allergy and although it wasn't food related, my immune system is stupidly over reactive at times.

Thank you Alanna12. I appreciate your reply. It’s the way I was thinking. We just do not know what any longer term affects the vaccine may have on our illness, in the months to come. I can understand your decision not to proceed !!

But we do know with certainty that people are dying horrendous deaths, from COVID19.

I will have the vaccine without hesitation, because it would be my personal nightmare to find myself having to consent to being intubated and put into an induced coma, having said goodbye to my family, not knowing if it would be for the final time.

You must do what you feel is right, but I cannot fathom a world in which I would choose not to have a vaccine against a life threatening virus, just in case it might one day be proven to have side effects.

My step mum had breast cancer when she was 56 and she had the vaccine over a week ago and so far she is ok. No one suggested she shouldn't have it because of her past history of breast cancer. She felt a bit achy for a couple of days but has been fine since then.
