Hi there,

Please can you help me with these blood results as according to these I should be feeling great instead of exhausted and dizzy.

My results are as follows:

Full blood Count- satisfactory

B12 839 range 197-771

Folate 11.8 range 3.9-28..8

TSH 0.02 range 0.27-4.2

T3 5.8 Range 3.1-6.8

Ferritin 80 range 13-150

Harmoglobin 134 range 120-150

I started Igennus super b complex in July . I take 100mg levothyroxine and 20mg Liothyronine though I usually take 10mg as 20 can make me hyper.

I really appreciate all your advice and support thank you 😊

Hi Angie56,

Im still on my my own journey of trying to find the right t3/t4 doses with more questions than answers at this point, but a couple thoughts fwiw:

based on your thyroid levels it looks like you are almost over range with T4 and near the upper quartile with FT3. Have you considered lowering your levothyroxine dose? some people do well with high in range t4 but others do not, everyone is different. i personally experience quite a few negative effects if my T4 is high in range when also taking T3, and so far have done better with keeping it quite low. considering yours is as high as it is and you don’t feel well, i think it would be worth a shot to see if you feel better lowering it. one way to find out quickly if that will help you is to skip your levo dose for a day or two and see if you feel better without it. if so, i would consider lowering your levo to 88mcg or even 75 mcg daily and seeing how you feel after 6-8 weeks, and get bloodwork redone then as well. In terms of your T3 dose, if If that is your FT3 result taking 10 mcg t3, i wouldn’t take more, at least not before lowering t4 and waiting that out. if skipping levo for a day or two doesn’t make you feel better, perhaps trying different brands of t4 and/or t3 would be worth a shot, or trying NDT in place of synthetic t4 and t3.

most of your vitamin/mineral results look good but no result for vitamin d listed. how is your vitamin d? low vit d can cause fatigue. technically it looks like folate could also be slightly higher - if you are already supplementing with folate or b complex and don’t want to take more, perhaps you could try eating more folate-rich foods.

Hi asidist,

Hope you are well , thank you so much for your kind reply and advice I really appreciate it. I am taking Igennus b complex since July two per day , my folate I seem to always have problems with and B12. I know I usually feel better when folate is 16 and b12 900. I have also started Igennus collagen powder hopefully it helps.

I am scared to lower my thyroxine as I don’t want to feel worse. In the past it was T4 wouldn’t convert to t3 and liothyronine has been a god send.

Thank you 😊

that sounds like the t3 being higher is what is making you feel better, not the t4. in my experience skipping the t4 for just a even one day is a good indication of whether you’ll feel better or worse with lowering it. if you feel worse that day, well it’s only one day. you can also take slightly more (for instance 125 or 150 levo instead of 100) the next day if skipping it made you feel worse. the other thing you could do is cut it to 50 for 1-3 days, instead of skipping it entirely for one day. either way the effects, whether good or bad, will only last for a few days at most and you’ll have learned whether or not your current levo dose is too high. edit: wanted to add that being on too high a dose of thyroid hormone can make you feel as bad if not worse than being on too low a dose.

once you lower your t4, you may also find at that point that you can / you need to add more t3, and can do so without feeling over medicated. just some thoughts. good luck whatever you decide.

Ferritin 80 range 13-150

Harmoglobin 134 range 120-150

I just wanted to say that your ferritin is almost exactly mid-range which is very good. With the range you've given a healthy level is about 80 - 120 or 80 - 130.

Your haemoglobin shows that you aren't anaemic.

If you were anaemic your result would be lower than 120.

...

Folate 11.8 range 3.9-28..8

The optimal level for folate is upper half of the reference range i.e. approx 16 - 29.

Eating folate rich foods (do a web search for these) will help.

If you ever decide to supplement folate, be aware of this link :

...

Your B12 being slightly over the range is not a problem. Your level is very good.

Hi Humanbean, thank you so much for your reply I appreciate it.

I am taking super B complex two tablets per day by Igennus for folate- I know that when my folate is 16 I feel better . I thought taking those tablets would make folate better. I usually need my B12 to be 900 to feel good.

I have contacted my consultant as I still think my ferritin could be a little better as I feel so exhausted , dizzy and shaky.

I haven’t had vitamin D tested since 2019 so not sure what it is but I get constant ear infections.

Hope you are keeping well 😊

You can easily buy folate supplements separately from B Complex tablets. If you do you may only need to take one perhaps twice a week. But you would have to experiment.

The chris kresser link I gave in my previous reply suggests what type of folate supplements to buy.

The Igennus complex has folate in it methylated form - should I buy extra folate tablets do you think? Thank you so much Humanbean 😊

I'd go with eating folate-rich foods more often rather than supplement.

But if you do want to try pushing your folate higher to see if it helps you feel better then supplements might help. To avoid going over the top you could just try taking them, say, a couple of times a week.

Search for some links on "symptoms of folate toxicity" so you know what might happen if you overdo it.

One of the things I've found with my own folate is that it fluctuates dramatically from one test to the next. I really don't have a clue why this is, or whether my problem is common or not.
