Do I need to adjust my medication?

Hello all,

As above, here are my results from a few months back.

Currently take 50mcg of T4 in the morning and evening, do 100mcg in total.

Also taking taking 3, twice daily as above (25mcg).

Should I be able to tell I’m on T3, as I can’t tell at all.

TSH still not in range, so the question being do I need to up my medication?

Currently take: selenium, Vit A and D, B12 and magnesium daily and UDO’s probiotics.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Matthew

Mwaite1985Test results from a few months ago are not relevant now. You need to get new tests done for us to be able to make suggestions.

When having thyroid tests we always advise:

* Test no later than 9am, this gives the highest possible TSH which is needed when looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction.

* Nothing to eat or drink other than water before the test, this is because eating can lower TSH and coffee, and other caffeine containing drinks, can affect TSH.

* Last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before the test, this is because taking Levo before the test gives a false high result, leaving longer gives a false low result.

What doses of those vitamins are you taking and what are your current levels?

Is there a particular reason you're taking Vit A?

As you're taking B12, are you also taking a B Complex to balance all the B vitamins?

If you don't behave current results for vitamins it would be a good idea to do a full thyroid/vitamin test panel with Blue Horizon or Medichecks

Discount code and link to Blue Horizon here:

thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

Full thyroid/vitamin panel is their Thyroid Premium Gold.

Details of discounts and link to Medichecks here:

thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

Full thyroid/vitamin panel is their Advanced Thyroid Function Test.

Come back with current results with reference ranges when you have them, we will then be able to help.

The test was only from 6 weeks ago and I’ve not changed any dosages since then.

All medications I’ve referred we advised by my local health shop.

This test I’ve had done is the best on the market through Genova.

You said in your opening post

"As above, here are my results from a few months back."

So is it a few months or 6 weeks?

This test I’ve had done is the best on the market through Genova.

It's a blood test, the same as all the other labs, just different reference ranges, doesn't make it the best on the market.

Did you do the test as we advise, as I've listed above?

All medications I’ve referred we advised by my local health shop.

Health shops can't advise on medication, they're not medically trained, presumably you mean supplements?

Vit A is fat soluble, any excess gets stored and can lead to toxicity, we have to be careful with Vit A. Excess Vit D also gets stored as that is also fat soluble, which is why it's essential to test to establish if we need to supplement and at what dose.

When taking Vit D we also need Vit K2-mk7. Taking D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-mk7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissue where it can be deposited and cause problems such as calcification of arteries, kidney stones, etc. Did the health shop advise you about that?

When taking B12 we also need a B Complex.

Is your Levo prescribed? If so does your GP know you take T3?

What were your results before you started taking T3?

Do you know that you have Hashimoto's, as shown by your raised Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies?

Nice clear set of results! It does look like you could add more T4 if you still have symptoms..?

Thank you, I spent all this money on the results and no one has been able to interpret them for me, so thank you!

Mwaite1985

They can be interpreted accurately if you give the information asked for.

Is it "months" or 6 weeks since you had that test? You have said both but not cleared that up.

When did you take your last dose of Levo and T3 before doing the test, timing of dose prior to test is important to interpret them accurately.

Did you eat or drink anything but water before the test - if you did that can affect the TSH result.

Presumably this is sell sourced T3 as it’s 25mcg

Which brand of T3

Do you mean you are taking half a tablet (12.5mcg) morning and same again in evening?

How many weeks had you been taking T3 before this test?

Was last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Last 6.25mcg T3 roughly 8-12 hours before test?

Extremely odd to have high TSH on T3

Hello there,

Sorry I take one whole T3 in the morning and one at night.

Cytomel is 25mcg. (Unipharma).

This has always baffled me as why the TSH has never came down.

Is it the T3 being poor quality or is it the antibodies stopping it from coming down?

Thanks all.

Antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto’s

As you have Hashimoto’s.....Are you on strictly gluten free diet

Sorry don’t understand this comment

You mean you have been on 50mcg (2 x 25mcg) T3 for 6 months before this test?

Which brand of levothyroxine?

Are you taking your levothyroxine and T3 on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after each dose

No vitamin supplements or other medications for at least 2 hours after each dose. No vitamin D or magnesium

supplements within 4 hours of levothyroxine or T3

(Time gap doesn’t apply to vitamin D mouth spray)

Suggest you increase levothyroxine by 25mcg and retest in 6-8 weeks

Plus add daily good quality vitamin B complex (but remember to stop taking vitamin B complex a week before ALL BLOOD TESTS as biotin can falsely affect test results
