Itchy no rash - over medicated?

I have Hashimotos, diagnosed Jan 2017. I take 1/1.5 thyroid S on alternate days. The skin on my torso is so itchy. It has been like this for 7 months. There is no rash. I’ve scratched it raw. I feel fine but I think I might be over medicated. Do my results look over medicated? Also, I stopped taking my meds for seven days. Wow did I feel great. I started again today and feel soooo tired.

PS I’ve cut out all allergy foods (shellfish) and intolerant food (dairy gluten sugar etc) since 2018

Welcome to the Forum

I take 1/1.5 thyroid S on alternate days.

ThyroidS contains T3. With any medication that contains T3, it’s absolutely essential to take EXACTLY same dose everyday.

Suggest you decide on which dose. Take same dose everyday for minimum 6-8 weeks then get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with Hashimoto’s

Ask GP to test vitamin levels Now

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

If/when on NDT make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

Medichecks Thyroid plus vitamins including folate (private blood draw required)

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off if go on thyroid uk for code

No meds for five weeks as of today. These are my results.

FT3 2.46 (1.71-3.71)

FT4. 0.83 (0.70-1.48)

TSH. 3.825(0.350-4.940)

Will come back in another six weeks to see endo.

Maybe I was over medicated. The itching has finally stopped

You need vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested too as these frequently crash when thyroid hormones stopped

And cholesterol test helpful. High cholesterol linked to being hypothyroid

All were tested in July and were good

But may drop significantly now with not being on any thyroid hormones

It could be the excipients in the Thyroid S that’s causing the problem

Hi hi,I was on a stack of about 15 supplements for two years - all the hashi recommended ones plus more. I have now stopped all medication since November 6, including my NDT Thyroid S. My itching stopped. Nothing. I feel great and clear headed. I see the endo next Sunday Dec 13. I’m wondering if I’m in remission. If not, then I can blame the excipients as you suggested in the NDT. I will have a clear panel of bloodwork to work from and go from there. I’ll let you know.
