Hi everyone I just received my thyroid meds and my Endo ordered the generic form of Synthyroid although I have been on Synthyroid for past few years.
Its crazy these pills look totally different and Im worried about reactions to this generic vs. original Synthyroid. I also got a different Cytomel tablet made by a different manufacturer (Im not so worried about this) im only taking 10mcg daily.
But the Synthyroid freaks me out! Im I over reacting? I did email my Endo.

No you are not over reacting. The study I posted a few months ago reflects this. You may be OK with a different levo or it may undo a lot of the progress you have made. You are right not to want to take that risk.
Hi lalatoot, I contacted the pharmacist yesterday about my concerns and of course she couldn’t do anything about the script since the doctor ordered it even though the pharmacist can see I have been on the NON- Generic version on Synthyroid for the past 4 years “sigh” but she actually went as far as to say these two pills are exactly the same just made by different companies so I said so they aren’t exactly the same then.
Would you be concerned about the Cytomel coming from a different manufacturer? I didn’t feel this was as big of a deal as the Synthyroid.
I would tell you that from my experiences if the generic fillers agree with you then it shouldn't be a problem. I did not do well with Synthroid but I do well Levoxyl. The same with Cytomel . I do better with the generic Cytomel. All of us have different tolerances/reactions to the fillers in our thyroid meds.
In the future if you must have a certain brand your Dr should specify on the script the brand you need/want and it should say dispense as written only. Then your sure to get what works best for your needs.
