Significant Difference between Medichecks and NHS Blood Test

Had 2 blood tests within space of 3 weeks.

Any ideas why the results are so different?

8/7/20. Medichecks Test

Taken at 1000 on empty stomach

TSH 0.005 (0.27 -4.2)

T4 24.20. (12-22)

T3 5.9. (3.1-6.8)

Medichecks suggest overmedication.

28/7/20. NHS Test

Taken at 0900 on empty stomach

TSH 0.04. (0.27-4.20)

T4 17.5 (12-22)

T3 3.8 (3.10 -6.80)

Yes tests done under same conditions. No change in medication. Only take Levo 150mg

Igennus Super B Complex

Vit D3 and K2 (combined)

CoQ10

Ferrochel Iron Bisyglycinate (stopped that as Ferritin was over range)

Did you stop your super B complex 7 days before both blood tests? If not, it is possible that the Medichecks test was affected by the Biotin (I'm pretty sure they use biotin in the assay) and the NHS test was not

No I did not stop the Super B.... didn’t know I had to. I could ask Medichecks if they use biotin in the assay.

On the NHS blood test reports it now always states that biotin can affect the results.

I have never seen that on my NHS forms. And of course the GP doesn’t tell you😳

Of course, both test might have been affected by in different ways as, depending on the exact assay used, TSH is usually affected and free t4 and free T3 might or might not be.

This comment is always noted on our lab report, whether via printout or online. Maybe the lab used in your area is different.
