Hi guys I'm asking with regards to my dad this time.my dad is having trouble with his gp not really listening when hes telling them he has hyper symptoms such as shaking, feeling anxious no appetite and loosing weight. His blood results say thyroid is 1.63 and the surgeries range is between 0.27 too 4.02. they are saying he's within range and ignoring the symptoms he has. Can someone say if they think a slight change to his levothyroxine dose could help. He is currently on 125mg of levo and he has been on same dose for alot of yrs

What he really needs is thorough testing. Just testing the TSH tells you nothing at all. It is higher than I would like mine, so I doubt he's over-medicated. And, those symptoms could also be hypo symptoms. He probably needs an increase in dose.

But, if you could get him a private test and get results for:

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPO antibodies

Tg antibodies

vit D

vit B12

folate

ferritin

you'd get a much better picture of what's going on.

TSH, by the way, is not 'his thyroid'. It's a pituitary hormone that doctors believe tells them all they need to know about the thyroid! Rediculous. But, you can't tell them anything, I'm afraid.
