Sourcing T3

My private endo has prescribed me T3 due to poor conversion from T4 to T3. I was wondering where people source it from? Thank you.

If you have a prescription then you take it to your pharmacy or use one of the pharmacies listed on ThyroidUK's website that will dispense private prescriptions:

thyroiduk.org/help-support/...

Currently it may still be possible to send it to Germany (that will end at some point due to Brexit) providing the prescription has been written correctly:

Liothyronine 20mcg

100 tablets

(or multiples of 100 or 50)

German pharmacies listed here:

IVe been getting mine in Germany (they must have the prescription sent) and Belgium and France. Latter needs scan or equivalent and friend in France got it without although it was offered.

I’m also very worried about post Brexit. But if you can get a few prescriptions together, you could stockpile. Dates run for about 18 months which will give a bit

More time.

Looked at your UK list, but do they charge ridiculous prices for liothyronine, like £300 month for 20 or 25mcg pills?

I believe T3 in the UK is 20mcg tablets and comes in boxes of 28, and yes the charge to the NHS is ridiculously expensive which is why they're reluctant to prescribe it on the NHS.

But it’s just as expensive to private buyers, according to my research. I am correct, aren’t I? Can’t believe so many people on this blog can afford that sort of money. And I’m now taking 70mcg a day which would mean about £1000 a month! Couldn’t possibly.

Contacted my GP about what he could do to help re:probable problems after Brexit and he said the surgery had been on to NICE about the ridiculous pricing that the NHS has allowed the manufacturer to get away with. I don’t know how strongly it was done, but if all the surgeries connected to the members here did the same, perhaps it may have some effect.

Have you any idea what Thydoid UK is doing about solving the problem, please?

Yes, you are correct, if a person has a private prescription and has it dispensed in the UK then they have to pay that price.

If a person has an NHS prescription they pay nothing because anyone in England with a diagnosis of hypothyroidism gets an excemption certificate and doesn't pay for any prescriptions. Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland don't charge anyone at all for prescriptions.

Many members self source T3 from overseas without prescription at a fraction of the UK price.

What's the best way to take T3?

What's the best way to take T3?

To be on the safe side and ensure that nothing affects it's absorption, same as Levo - one hour before food or two hours after, with a glass of water only, and away from other medication and supplements.
