Hi,

Here are my latest blood test results and I have been told no further action. I am not diagnosed with Thyroid issues but I have a lot of symptoms.

From page 2 of your results the only thing out of range is the Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Moderately elevated ESR can occur with inflammation, anaemia, infection, pregnancy and old age. Your full blood count doesn't suggest anaemia.

From this page your creatinine level is slightly low but I haven't any knowledge of that.

As for your thyroid tests, a normal healthy person would have a TSH of no more than 2, often around 1, with FT4 mid-range-ish. Your TSH is slightly high and your FT4 is on the low side at just 18.92% through range. This suggests that you may be on your way to hypothyroidism but your current levels will not get you a diagnosis. You would need TSh to be 10 or FT4 below range.

Have you had vitamins tested? Low nutrient levels often have symptoms that overlap with symptoms of hypothyroidism. I would test

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is inadequate...but all NHS likely to test

TSH slightly higher than average and Ft4 low in range

Suggest you get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing privately

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels or test privately

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Thank you. I am looking into private testing, its just hard to know who to pick. I have so many symptoms of hypothyroidism.

You can ask for doctor's comments when you order. They're not really worth having as their doctors are NHS trained and will say the same as any GP, they tend to only look at TSH. They also seem to think that a result within range for vitamins is good, having no idea of optimal levels. You will get a much better interpretation of the results by posting them on the forum and letting experienced members comment.

As for your GP, they may or may not be accepted, some GPs don't like you doing private tests.

Sodium level seems very low. Under 135mmol/l is hyponatremia. An underactive thyroid is one possible reason for hypnoatremia. There are however many other possibilites.

Ohhh ok, its so strange that the range next to it states (133-146) makes it seem like its in the normal range. My Plasma creatine level is 49 umol/L and the range is (53-97) what does this mean?

Thank you, I do get tingling in hands and feet but GP tells me its because of fibro.

My surgery said that they can email the results over but I cant access them online. I havent got another blood test booked atm, my GP has put no further action on my latest results and I just find him very dismissive in general but I plan to ask if vitamins have been tested but I am also going to have a private blood test for thyroid full screening.

I dont know if i have ever had this tested, I have asked for it but I havent been good at checking or chasing up, im going to do more of that though! I have a GP appointment to ask if its been tested and I am going to ask for the vits to be checked.

There is a high (approx 40%) prevalence of B12 deficiency in hypothyroid patients. Traditional symptoms are not a good guide to determining presence of B12 deficiency. Screening for vitamin B12 levels should be undertaken in all hypothyroid patients, irrespective of their thyroid antibody status. Replacement of B12 leads to improvement in symptoms,

OK thanks. I didn't realise the ranges vary, that's interesting. Unfortunately my GP isn't looking at the bigger picture of my symptoms. When I told him my hair was falling out in clumps he was not compassionate and just said...the nhs do nothing for that. I was like wow and I had other symptoms he just didn't want to listen and he joked i was demanding

Your sodium is much too low, your potassium also low. CRP high and ESR. I would suggest you have your adrenals tested. Low cortisol can cause all of these and the inflammation. I would suggest you get a 24 hour saliva test. Low adrenals can also cause low thyroid. Unfortunately when it gets to a certain stage one thing causes the other. I would suggest the test first then up your salt intake, 1000mg Ester c, high vit b complex, plenty sleep. Keep an eye on blood pressure. You might find it's on low side? I had very similar results, had my cortisol tested and was surprised to find it so low this is why I'm suggesting you do the same x

Ooh OK interesting I will ask the GP to test this. I am changing GPs because I have a older male GP who came out of retirement due to Covid-19 and he is so dismissive that I worry about being honest about symptoms because he acts like im making a fuss about nothing and even called me demanding. The GP I hope to move to is much better and I hope i can build up a good rapport and maybe she might piece these sort of things together, you would hope a GP would! I've just been told 'acceptable limits no further action'. I have so many symptoms but they don't listen.

Hello. I do have low cortisol and the GP said he wants eo examine me and then refer on. I pushed for the test of my cortisol. I get tingling in my hands and feet. Run down, weight gain, low mood, heart palpitations, fatigue. I hope I'm finally getting to the bottom of the issue. I also had a private thyroid test, waiting for the results still x

There are so many symptoms of hypo/hyperthyroidism and GP’s on the whole don’t recognise any of them, that’s why they only go by blood test results and if they are in range then you are obviously fine. The computer says no

I've paid for a private blood test now and knowing the GPs might behave that way is a major part of the decision. Im also changing Gps to one that has been much more supportive than my current one.
