Thyrotoxicosis.

Has anyone on here ever been diagnosed with thyrotoxicosis, as I am showing signs of being hyper,i.e.palpitations,high heart rate, shaking, worsened anxiety. Anyone who can give me any advice regarding this,I would be most grateful,as, if my heart continues to beat at this rate,it could potentially kill me sooner rather than later.

Hi, what are your key vitamin levels? I experienced similar symptoms when my B vitamins were low.

Unfortunately I only have go vit d and b12 results from last year October 2019 b12. - 366 (211-911)

November 2019 vit d - 54 (50-150)

NHS are notoriously bad at checking vitamin and mineral levels as apparently each medical practice has to pay for patient blood tests and some are more expensive than others or at least this is what I believe is the case.

Hi, I found the same, so now test privately using Medichecks Thyroid Ultra Vit. These are often discounted on Thursdays. Self testing allows you get to check all essential vitamins and thyroid levels.

It’s just another word for having a hyperactive thyroid, and the symptoms are very typical.

Have you had any blood tests (TSH, FT3, FT4, TPO, TRAB or TSI...), if so, what were the results including the ranges (usually in brackets after the test result).

Depending on the cause of being hyper, you may need anti-thyroid medication, but your GP may also be able to prescribe some (temporary) beta blockers to help take the edge off the symptoms (which can be pretty scary).

If you are taking medication for an under-active thyroid, your meds may need to be (temporarily) reduced.

All those symptoms can also be due to being hypothyroid with Hashimoto’s

So medics need to test ALL thyroid levels

TSH

FT4

Ft3

All thyroid antibodies

Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too

Just thought I'd let you know that I've had bloods taken and should get results early next week, fingers crossed they don't try to say everything is NORMAL and fob me off. Found out today I've had very low blood sugar because I ate lots of sweets and I felt better, than I have for nearly 3 weeks no shaking and anxiety lessened considerably.

Spoke to doctor at my medical practice on Monday and says she will liaise with endo and get advice as to what tests and will get me in to do them. Am going to ring again tomorrow as my heart rate is almost constantly at over 120 and I don't know how long it can carry on like that before it becomes potentially life threatening.

Yes have been diagnosed twice with this but it was temporary. It was scary as I had lost weight and had endocrine problems but the anxiety and palpitations insommnia went unrecognised and was treated as a mental health problem. As Shaw's suggests this could be Hashimotos and may need thyroid antibody tests. It is recognised that gluten might be part of your thyroid problem. Sometimes multi grain and celiac disease may be part of autoimmune symptoms so it is worth asking for further tests for anti bodies and food intolerances. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi , I understand how you feel, What's your blood pressure like? You need to be tested for TSH, T3 ,T4, and anti bodies. If your anti bodies are too high you could be HYPER THYROID . If so they can put you on carbimazole or some thing similar to get your TSH up ( that's if you are HYER thyroid) If your HYPO thyroid( not HYPER )your TSH will be high and then if needed they can put you on a THYROID hormone to get your thyroid levels up. I think with your heart rate so high your more likely to be HYPER than HYPO . When I felt like you do I was diagnosed with GRAVES DISEASE and when I took PROPRANILOL (a blood pressure beaterblocker) I felt a he'll of a lot better, heart rate went down ,blood pressure went down and my nervous shake feeling was also a lot better. If your really worried about your heart you could go to Emergency Department or go to local doctor and demand blood test. If you go to doctor make sure you make them take blood pressure , if your blood pressure is up I personally would buy a OMRON blood pressure machine as I believe it's the only way to work out the right amount blood pressure medication you should be on as blood pressure can go up and down dramatically during the day also when you attend a doctors surgery so they don't get the right reading for you.Well I wish you well, hope thatsof some help.

When I has this, eating a fresh pear helped with the symptoms. I read this somewhere, tried it and it worked.

Hey sobs, my consultant said that if get insomnia, HR above 100 and anxiety to drop a dose. Are you losing weight quickly, have red blotchy and damp skin? When I was overdosed I had lost weight incredibly rapidly within a few weeks (9 kilos).

I had a period of toxicosis and I take propanol 10 mg. It slows heart rate and calms nervous feeling, helps me a lot!

Stopped taking Propranolol as they cause havoc with conversion of T4 to T3 and knew I may experience some withdrawals but I'm pretty sure that's not what's causing my symptoms

Levothyroxine 125mcg taken late at night

You could just stop taking your Levo for two or three days to see if it helps.

If it does help then stay off it until you start to feel a teeny tiny bit hypothyroid, then restart your Levo at a lower dose, say 100mcg per day.

If it makes you feel worse then go back on your Levo again immediately.
