Presumably you mean a private test?

If so then:

Medichecks Thyroid Check ULTRAVIT medichecks.com/products/thy...

Currently 25% discount with code SPRING25

or

Blue Horizon Thyroid PREMIUM

bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk... (previously known as Thyroid Check Plus Eleven)

Both tests include the full thyroid and vitamin panel. They are basically the same test but with the following small differences:

For the fingerprick test:

Blue Horizon requires 1 x microtainer of blood (0.8ml), Medichecks requires 2 x microtainers (total 1.6ml)

Blue Horizon includes Total T4 (can be useful but not essential). Medichecks doesn't include this test.

B12 - Blue Horizon does Total B12 which measures bound and unbound (active) B12 but doesn't give a separate result for each. Medichecks does Active B12.

Total B12 shows the total B12 in the blood. Active B12 shows what's available to be taken up by the cells. You can have a reasonable level of Total B12 but a poor level of Active B12. (Personally, I would go for the Active B12 test.)

Blue Horizon include magnesium but this is an unreliable test so don't let this sway your decision, it also tests cortisol but that's a random cortisol test and to make any sense of it you'd need to do it fasting before 9am I believe.

Currently only available as fingerprick test or arrange your own phlebotomy.

Is it best to wait because of how unreliable (Not their fault at all) Not knowing when samples will be picked up?

Mine were delayed by just one day due to post, so if you send at the start of the week it might be best. Mind you this was a few weeks ago, things may have changed since then. Maybe phone the testing company to see if samples are being delayed?

I can only speak for Medichecks at the moment. They are including a "Tracked 24" return envelope in with the kit instead of a standard first class envelope. You don't need to hand it over the Post Office counter, it can be dropped into any post box, but just make sure it's on the day you do your test and will be picked up that same day.

I did a Medichecks on Tuesday, dropped into the post box that afternoon for the 4.30pm pick up. It is now 11am on Thursday and I've just received an email with my results. I think in the circumstances that is exceptional service.

Just do the test and post on a Monday or Tuesday would be my suggestion.

Thank you so much. I previously used medichecks but had heard blue horizon was more detailed so thank you for the information xxx

I don't think it's that Blue Horizon is more detailed, they just add a couple of tests that you are paying a fair bit more for.

Personally, I would say that the Active B12 test is more useful and Medichecks offer that, Blue Horizon don't (unless they've changed it lately), they just do the Total B12.

The magnesium test that BH do isn't really worth bothering with because testing magnesium is so unreliable, and their cortisol test may or may not be useful to you.

What I do is use Blue Horizon once a year for the full thyroid/vitamin panel because they only require 1 x microtainer which I can easily fill. Medichecks require 2 x microtainers for the equivalent test and I would struggle to fill 2.

If I want to just check my thyroid panel alone then I use Medichecks Thyroid Monitoring test as it's a lot cheaper than BH for just TSH/FT4/FT3 and they use the same lab to process the test.

Oh I might invest in one of those.

I have just got my first ever results of my thyroid in 26 years.

Can someone ( because of my fibro) please go step by step in posting them and the rest of my my medication for your perusal please. Maybe a 5 yr old. I’m using an iPhone if that matters and I don’t know how to use this properly too.!

It’s a laugh a minute

Thank you for any help given.

Oh one good thing. I have been given1 1/2 hr companionship visit. Yey!!!

Because of the fibromyalgia,cfs/me plus groupies my morning call is between 8.30-1pm. If I sleep through that 1 1/2 hr call next one is 6pm for 1/2 hr. 3 days a week they have no one to help me get ready for bed and apply creams etc.

So please if you can help me publish this two or maybe 3 line report + my current medication including the higher dose of levothyroxine

Thank you in advance.

Hi Bonnie

Suggest you start a new post with your questions, or it is likely to get lost. If you're asking about how to do a private blood test, suggest you look at SeasideSusie 's recent replies to other people [click on her profile page and look at replies]. If you want people's view of your blood tests, start a new thread and post your results and ranges and someone is likely to reply quickly.
