Can anyone tell me if N-Acetylcysteine is helpful for Hashimoto’s, and how safe is it. I struggle taking tablets, is there another type?

Thanks

I take NAC in capsule form, I find capsules generally easier to take than tablets.

Have a look at the article linked to in this post just made by jgelliss

I thought you wanted an alternative to tablets from what you say in your post, which is why I suggested capsules.

You can get it in powder form (Google and you'll immediately see a couple of brands) but I have no idea what it would be like to take it in that form.

Thanks, I saw some powder online, it’s so difficult to know what else to try and know if it’s going to make any difference. 😊

I take NAC (capsules) but not for the reason you are considering them. It helps in my situation.

You almost certainly wouldn't be able to take NAC in powder form. It stinks like bad eggs. I doubt anyone would attempt to sell it (Edit : But I see from SeasideSusie 's reply that it is available, which surprises me. I wouldn't be able to bring myself to swallow it). Capsules are by far the easiest way to take it.

There is a version of NAC available as effervescent tablets. My late partner took them for a lung problem. I don't remember them smelling.

They were made in Italy and expensive. Our local pharmacy made a big effort to get him a copy of English instructions. His GP tried to change to a cheaper version but the consultant wouldn't have it as only the effervescent one had been tested for his condition.

This was 8 yrs ago so other companies may make it now.

The NAC did help but then he went to hospital & was given wrong drugs.
