Thyroid results & dose advice please?

Hi, I had bloods done last week and saw my Endo on Friday. Can anybody help me with these results and her dosage change?

TSH- 1.7 (range 0.2-4.5)

FT3- 5.6 (range 2.5-4.9)

FT4- 14 (range 9-21)

I was on 75mcg T4 and 5mcg T3 in PM. Endo now changed dose to 100mcg T4 and kept 5mcg T3 same as when I upped T3 to 10mcg I didn’t feel good and had bad palps. My FT3 has come back over the range again, is this ok with this dose change? 🤨 last dose of T4 was 24 hrs before bloods, last T3 dose was 12 hrs before bloods as advised, thanks

What about vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels?

When were these last tested?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

I’ve got the vitamin results but I was just curious as to why my T3 is high and over the range and at the Endos dose change, although a minimal change I’m sensitive to thyroid meds so this is why she’s done that. But is the higher T3 an issue? I will post my vitamins but they are low and I’m seeing Doctor about them next week

I’m taking methyl b12 lozenge (which I believe have falsely elevated my b12) however b12 was 890 before current result which is now lower at 598, it was originally 240 before starting the lozenges. My iron repeated low drs do nothing about this, I’m exhausted constantly, have other illnesses Sjogrens too. Discussing b12 injections next week with Gp as I believe my b12 is actually lower than this false reading since the lozenges. I take ferrous fumarate 1x daily, cod liver oil, vitamin d.

Results for vitamins.

Iron - 13 range 10-28

Ferritin - 32 range 15-200

Folate - 11.9 range 2.8-20

These were all tested same day last week as thyroid, 28 Jan. I have Gp follow up to discuss the iron and b12 issues next week but doubtful they will actually bother doing anything, my levels have been repeatedly low. Gp refuses to test vitamin d but I’ve been on supplements high dose for this for some time now it’s unlikely to be low.

Rather than just supplementing B12 recommend on here to supplement a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Well you can have low vitamin and on supplements....or it could be too high

Vitamin D is toxic in excess

Important to test twice yearly when supplementing

Ferritin/iron are still low

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

Thank you I will look into these. What about the thyroid results, I know without optimal iron/vitamins I will struggle with dose changes however do I stick with the endos suggestion of upping T4 from 88mcg to 100mcg and keep T3 the same story 5mcg, based on these recent results? Or is the fact the fT3 level is over the range a bad thing and not good to continue having? Maybe I am over converting somewhere? My Endo is useless with this area

You may find as you improve vitamin levels thyroid results get better

Hello Mistygrey

I 'm of the understanding that no thyroid hormone replacement will work effectively if ferritin, folate B12 and vitamin D are not optimal - and just not anywhere - in the range.

My ferritin was at 22 in a similar range to above - I couldn't tolerate the prescription iron tablets so did it myself with Solgar Gentle Iron, Spatone Liquid Iron and eating whizzed down chicken livers.

I was refused an iron infusion.

It took time but definitely improved my overall health.

I still supplement to a lesser degree all the above vitamins and minerals :-

I'm with Graves post RAI in 2005 - a treatment I deeply regret.

You are very right. I have begged the doctors to look into my iron and try and help me with it they are so adamant that’s my levels are ‘normal’ can you believe it. My iron was actually 8 (range 10-28) a few months back on the previous tests. I was told it’s a little on the low side but no further action.

I’ve been battling for months. I am even considering b12 injections as I know low iron can run alongside b12 and mine has been low.

I find the solger one isn’t strong enough, how many did you take? Is the spatone strong enough?

I can manage one ferrous fumarate but two completely wrecks my stomach 😫

I don't remember exactly but whatever was on the Solgar instructions -

Spatone is a liquid iron, it's not high strength as such, but I took this as well -

and also had a tablespoon of whizzed down liver each morning :

I was desperate and housebound and was just starting my learning curve on this amazing website.

I do remember that my ferritin score had almost doubled within 3 months : it was a slow build to get further up the range but I managed mid 80's in my private blood test about 9 months later.
