Medicheck Blood Results

Hi Thyroid Team,

Thanks for all support on my previous posts. I'm not sure if I should add this to my previous post so please let me know if I should for clarity.

I am aiming to interpret the results myself so please advise if your views differ from my novice understanding.

From what I have learned from this site, TSH is not the best indicator, with my T3 & T4 at the lower end of the range, I am okay for now.

The high Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies have improved massively (previously 800!!) so although I have Hashi's, it is heading in the right direction ;-)

The advise from the medichecks GP was to wait and retest in 6mths. As mentioned before, I have a bad reaction to Levo so this is a relief.

Since the blood test, I am now Gluten Free and minimal refined sugar.

Wrong, I'm afraid. The level of the antibodies has no bearing on Hashi's status. Hashi's will always be there just the same, no worse, no better. Antibodies fluctuate independantly. Even if you got rid of the completely, the end result with Hashi's would still be the same: i.e. complete destruction of the thyroid gland.

The advise from the medichecks GP was to wait and retest in 6mths.

Wrong again. With a TSH of over 8 - nearly 9! - you are very hypo. The UK is the only country in the world that likes patients to have a TSH of over 10 before it will treat. You'll notice that the range stops at 4.2. And, you are actually hypo when TSH gets to 3. So imagine how hypo you will be at 10! And, with antibodies on top, you need treatment now. Not in 6 months time.

Remember that the Medichecks' GP has only had a bog-standard NHS training in thyroid - i.e. no training at all. He is not a thyroid expert. He could be wrong. And I would say he definitely is. Don't put your future health at risk by waiting any longer. You've already had this disease for a long time to have a TSH that high, and considerable damage has already been done to your thyroid. So, the sooner the better, I would say.

I know we are all different but I wouldn't feel well with a TSH that high and T3 and T4 so low in range. Many people prefer their T3 and T4 to be in the top third - which means more medication. I can't see from previous posts what levo (if any) you are currently taking, but I would go back to the GP soon ...

Hi fuchsia-pink, I am not currently on Levo.

Your vitamin D still needs improving to at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better

Bi-polar type issues may be hashimoto’s linked and starting on levothyroxine may be beneficial....trying different brands to find one that suits you

Thanks SlowDragon, I do hope the levo helps improve my mood issues - that would be magic! I will look for Vit D suppliments too.

Folate – Serum 10.12 ug/L[> 3.89, R 3.89 -19.45]

Vitamin B12 – Active >150 pmol/L [> 37.5 R [37.5-187.5]

I'm confused. Have you been given two ranges for each of these tests?

Hi humanbean,

There was an error in the editing from the medichecks format.

They should have read:

Folate – Serum 10.12 ug/L[3.89 -19.45]

Vitamin B12 – Active >150 pmol/L [37.5-187.5]
