I’ve purchased 3mg tablets and I was considering dissolving it so I can dose 1.5 each time and gradually increase. Been reading the Hashimoto’s protocol and I’ve felt a lot better after starting the adrenal protocols and now looking for another win.

Hi Simba. I have been on LDN for about 4 months. No difference so far. My TG antibodies are exactly the same. Some say it takes time, it also does not work for everyone I read. I will stick with it for a while. I buy it in UK with private prescription and it is not that cheap, about £20/month. So I would like to know how did you get tablets? Would you please private message me? Worth trying though. So many good reports.

My husband tried it with a script from his Dr. We are in the U S and purchased it from a local compounding pharmacy. He started at 3 mg and worked up to 4. It was expensive and not covered by insurance, but we thought if it worked, it was worth it. The one positive was that his antibodies did not increase, but after almost a year they didn't go down significantly. He did have trouble sleeping while taking LDN, so he decided to discontinue use.

I had trouble sleeping at first. Took about 4 weeks, but I titrated on very slowly to help with the insomnia and vivid dreams. Try getting the full dose and split your own pills instead of using a compounding pharmacy. The compounding is the expense. It’s a covered medication in full dose

Actually my husband did get up to 4.5 mg which is a full dose ...unless being used to eliminate a drug addiction. We researched LDN at length and have a very knowledgeable Dr. who said...there are three types of patient when taking LDN for hoshimotos, MS, fibromyalgia and other autoimmune diseases. Some will get great relief, others only some or temporary relief and those who get no relief. We felt confident in using a compounding pharmacy since online purchases can be very sketchy as far as what you actually get. My husband's Dr. agreed that after a years use with little relief, it was a good trial period to know if he should continue.

When you say it's covered by insurance in full dose...you are speaking of full dose used for someone addicted to opioids and trying to get off of them. In no way would we ask his Dr. to falsify what he was taking LDN for.

Hi I’ve been taking LDN for almost 2 years. It’s absolutely amazing. Best results are from taking the entire dose at night. I take 4.5mg. My antibodies have dropped to the 500s from “greater than 1000” but I’ve also seen improvements in other areas..my rosacea has completely cleared up and I’ve had so much improvement in IBS-C, I’m now able to eat some things that used to be completely off limits.

The down side: I have a spine injury and opioid pain killers do not work.

Good luck

I have only been taking it for a few months, but did feel some initial benefits straight off. This slowed when I upped my dose, so I have been experimenting with the correct dose for me. Its trial and error, but I do feel it is worth it - there is no fix all cure for everything but this has been one of the things that I can say has noticeably helped in the last 4 years since diagnoses. This group on FB is helpful facebook.com/groups/1084243...

I believe it has helped with hypothyroid symptoms as well as adrenal fatigue and gut issues.

Thank you I’ll check it out. I’ve deffinitely felt like a different person since realising I’ve had adrenal fatigue and taken measures to counter it. Thought my thyroid was to blame for tiredness and such but clearly not

Its hard to pin point an exact cause when there could be many contributing factors xx

Hi Simba154, I would like to try as following Izabella Wentz protocol but couldn’t find anywhere to buy in the UK. Do you mind private messaging me the resource please?

Hi, there is a pharmacy in Glasgow who fulfils LDN prescriptions and will post them out however you need to have a prescription, either private or NHS.

Hi Simba

I have been on low dose naltrexone now for 6 weeks approx I started at 1.5 then went to 2.5 and that is where I am at present but soon to try 3. I am feeling better since taking it, I take 1.25 thyroxine and .5 t3 a day. I do think it is best to keep an eye on how it affects you because it can reduce the need for thyroxine. Some improvements are subtle but I notice that I feel stronger, can now stand for longer, over past few weeks I noticed I can walk up and down stairs easily without holding on to hand rails, I don't feel so old and I sleep really well and don't have so many aches and pains and feelings of inflammation.

I do think it is best to start low and slow when it is taken by someone with thyroid complications. so perhaps cut it in half or even a quarter and up it every couple of weeks.

What do you thinks a good way to split it up as it’s not a solid tablet? Maybe put in water and measure what amount of water would be what dose?

Yes Simba that is a way to do it, you could dissolve in pure water (not tap water) and then use a baby syringe to get the measured dose you want each day. There are Youtube video's on how to do it for 50mcg tablets but you could work out the ratio that you need for your dosage. I did it when I had 50mcg tablets and used the syringe to take just 1.5 to start etc. It tastes bitter but hey ho, I just swallow it down. Be prepared to have some insomnia to start with, so get a good book ready to read at night until you drop off, after a couple of days you should sleep well but may have more vivid dreams but that does not mean they are nightmares, I have not really noticed this so much though. I take mine around 9pm at night so it has usually kicked in when I go to bed around 11. I have also watched a you tube video where a man recommends pulse dosing to reduce any negative symptoms/side effects , so you can go up or down a little every couple of days if you have side effects, I have not tried this yet as have not had any unpleasant side effects so far. I wish you well, please update and let us know how you are getting on with it and be patient not everyone notices a difference straight away and it can take a lot longer for others. I have not had my antibodies tested since being on it but I know I have Hashimotos, I am just going by how well I feel and I do definitely feel a positive difference, I tend to stay away from my gp surgery as much as possible and they only do basic tsh thyroid tests when I do go in for 6 monthly reviews.
