Anyone changed from Armour to Levothyroxine only?

Hi,

I would love to hear from anyone who has switched over from Armour to Levothyroxine only?

And if so..... How did you do it?

And was it successful and are you now well on Levothyroxine only?

It’s depends upon your bloods and if you convert to t3z

I am on a different ndt but I could not cope without t3.( but mine was nil initially).

Do you have any tests from before you went on ndt and any now?

I appreciate it is v expensive.

I am having problems with Erfa. No/to erratic supplies plus the cost has sky rocketed 300%

in the last 2 years. Bringing my dose to £2.50 a day.

I have now been without my drugs for nearly a month, supplementing with Nuri Thyroid.

I have ordered some Levo from my GP as a back up.

Now what?

Thyro Gold looks to be an excellent product, but again the costs are prohibitive £40 to post to the UK, plus the charges at this end. Not a possibility.

Any ideas out there?

Only metavive or source your own t3.

Hi, I am on ERFA beginning to find it very expensive with erratic supply chain. My functional doctor suggested Metavive pro which you can buy over-the-counter. She said one 60 mg tablet of metavive pro is the same as one 60 mg tablet of ERFA .I’m using up my ERFA first, but she tells me that many others have made the transfer and are doing well. She also suggested a gradual swap

Ive been really good on Erfa until last year my blood work was all wrong! My doctor suggested I try euthyrox which is levo and cynomel with is T3 my blood work is back to normal and the cost is very cheap! If I start to feel ill again I will try to find a natural one again but for now im fine, btw I have Hashimoto's and lupus😊

One of the 'thyroid experts' (now deceased) resigned his Licence as he was being pusued by the authorities because he was treating patients as he did himself and was prescribing 'other than' leothyroxine for patients. (he was hypo himself).

He recommended Metavive as obviously you cannot get options without a prescription.

If you read 'Tears Behind Closed Doors' it is a great story of disabilities to good health.

I am in the process of switching from Thyroid-S to Levothyroxine after 5 years. I am hoping my GP will then treat me.

Only switched 3 weeks ago & so far I feel fine. In fact I have lost the feeling of being overheated that I always had on NDT. I realize it is early days though and I’m going to test my bloods in another month.

I have not started switching yet. I hope it works because then I wouldn't have to keep worrying about getting this Armour!

I am currently taking 3 x 30 mcg Armour plus 50mcg Levo.

Never had a T3 test cos hospital lab won't do it for GP.

I am glad to hear you are ok and hope it continues to go well.

What dose were you on?

And what is the doctor's plan for your switch?

Is it your GP? Or Endo?

are you switching because they stopped your NDT like they have with me?

I was on 3 grains and am now on 1 grain and 100mg Thyroxine at the moment. I self administer

So you are switching over yourself?

Isn't it incredible that you feel the same now on half the NDT dose you were on before?

I am the same.

I was taking 3 grains Armour plus 50mcg Levo for many years.

Then I slowing reduced my Armour (my idea) and got down to 1.5 grains plus 50 Levo.

And I feel just as well as I did when I was taking twice the amount of Armour.

Now the NHS says they can no longer prescribe Armour for me, so I am going to work with my GP to slowly switch over.

How gradually have you done it?

Pretty quickly - went from 3 grains to 50 thyroxine & 2 NDT 2 weeks ago & now on 100 thyroxine & 1 NDT - so far so good!

So if you are doing this on your own without your doctor?

....how are you getting the thyroxine?

Haven’t felt any different. I started with 50mg just in case and I haven’t had any problems. If anything I have lost the feeling of being overheated which I wonder was from the high amount of T3 in NDT. As I say it is early days so I am going to see how I feel after a few months.
