Please help with medichecks thyroid test

Hi everyone, I’ve recently had a medichecks thyroid test done, please see image attached. I am currently on 25mcg of levo and really want to increase it, I am also using vitamin D + K2 spray and magnesium spray. My docs just flat out refuse to increase the levo and he even asked why I think it needs increasing, when I told him I felt like crap and was hoping that by taking more levo it would increase my T3 and the I might resemble a human being rather than a zombie. I still didn’t get an increase, just another blood test.

Please can someone take a look and advise best way to get docs to increase

Thanks for your time

Your Doctor clearly knows nothing about treating the thyroid. Your TSH should be around 1. As for your dose most thyroid patients start on 50mcg of thyroxine and gradually increase it until the patient feels well. I would get another Doctor or tell him that you have taken advice from this site and was advised to increase your medication. If he ignores you find another Doctor who knows what he is doing.

Hi, I’ll leave the thyroid replies to the experts, but your vitamin B12 is low, optimal is around 125 for active B12.. I suspect you are deficient and need injections.. your folate is also low, optimal is in the top quarter of range so you would benefit from taking folic acid.. and your vitamin d needs to be over 100nmol to be optimal for someone with no autoimmune illnesses and up to 200nmol with autoimmune illnesses..

I would ask your dr to check your B12 levels in the hope you’ll get injections x

Yeah, I mentioned that B12 was low - he said it is within the range so they wouldn’t do anything about it. I will look at folate, thank you. The labs that my dr uses don’t measure active B12 only total which I think is a waste of time. Thank you

I don’t think many in my practice know much about thyroid to be honest, yet they still refuse to give me more levo. I told him about this site and his response was, well they do things differently in the USA, I told him that many of the people on here are from the uk

See a different GP or insist on referral to an endocrinologist

You need 25mcg dose increase in Levothyroxine and bloods retested 6-8 weeks later

Likely to need further increases too

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH significantly under one) and most important is that FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range

All four vitamins need to be regularly tested and frequently need supplementing to maintain optimal levels

NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine.

nhs.uk/medicines/levothyrox...

Also what foods to avoid (eg recommended to avoid calcium rich foods at least four hours from taking Levo)

A year ago you posted about low vitamin levels

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Ferritin has improved. But others haven't

Obviously being under medicated is making vitamin levels hard to improve

How much vitamin D have you been taking?

Level has dropped.

Suggest you double your dose vitamin D

B12 and folate on the low side. Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Low vitamin D and low B vitamins may be linked as explained here

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

insomnia can be linked to low vitamin D, low B vitamins and/or low T3

NICE guidelines

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

The initial recommended dose is:

For most people: 50–100 micrograms once daily, preferably taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast, caffeine-containing liquids (such as coffee or tea), or other drugs.

This should be adjusted in increments of 25–50 micrograms every 3–4 weeks according to response. The usual maintenance dose is 100–200 micrograms once daily.

Thanks for the response and the links. I will look at the video later and read the others when my brain has woken up. I’m obviously not taking enough Vit D, I have been doing 3 sprays per day and I have some ingennus super B complex but it’s hit and miss when I remember to take it and I have only been taking 1 tablet at a time. I’ve asked my hubby to come with me next time I have an appt to see if I get a different response. Drs response to the B12 was, it’s within the range so we wouldn’t do anything about it. Ive got a form for a blood test at the hospital (which I’ve misplaced at the moment) that I’m going for tomorrow morning. I wish my brain worked like it used to, my memory is shocking at the moment. I’ll print out the nice guidelines on dosage and take that as well.

Brain fog is common hypothyroid symptom

Strictly gluten free diet can help improve this (assuming gluten is a problem)

But most important is to get dose of Levothyroxine increased slowly

Is your vitamin D 1000iu strength or 3000iu strength? If it's only 1000iu, suggest you get some 3000iu next time

Remember to stop taking vitamin B complex a few days before any blood tests

Getting a weekly pill dispenser for your vitamin supplements can help you remember to take daily supplements

Also is a good idea to have a weekly pill dispenser for your Levothyroxine.

Selenium supplements can help improve conversion of FT4 to FT3. But you need higher dose of Levothyroxine (T4) in order to have enough FT4 to convert

Daily vitamin C can help support adrenals

Only add one supplement at a time or make one change at a time

Hi

I have the 3000 one, the vitamin b complex I have has Vit c at 80mg per tablet. Is that enough? The pill dispenser is probably a good idea, never thought of that, lol. I keep looking at gluten free and was considering it as a possibility if my antibodies showed possible Hashi’s but I probably haven’t got that according to my blood results. I’ll start taking the b complex after my bloods tomorrow

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

Have you had ultrasound scan of thyroid?

I had a scan on my neck last year as I had a small lump. The lump turned out to be a very small nodule, but cause my neck is so skinny that’s how I noticed it. There words were you have a dancers neck, wish I had the energy to dance, lol. They didn’t say anything about anything else
