Thyroid uptake scan

I know I’m just sitting here making myself feel ill and scared- or at least, more ill and scared- but I really wish I hadn’t let them do that test. Could it have damaged my thyroid? I know they are supposed to measure the dose carefully, but it seems to be the same stuff they use to kill it, and everything else they did was wrong, so how can you know it’s safe? Xxxx

Hi Ginny,

Let me see if I can help make you feel a little better.

The amount of iodine in the tracer is equal to that of one slice of white bread. It will not damage your thyroid. I had several of these before my TT - I have Graves - and I was never hurt in any way.

I know it is easier said than done, but if I could suggest - put on some nice music or a program you like to watch and relax a bit if you can. Make a nice cup of soothing herbal tea for yourself.

Let me know how you are doing - wishing you all the best! Here’s a hug from across the pond. 🤗

Thank you tons, honey! I was feeling rough today, and I got to thinking, what if I made my thyroid function fail- since I’m having so much trouble convincing doctors that my pituitary function is compromised, how could things get even worse? But you made me feel loads better! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi I had this done last week. Have the same fears as you. We sometimes feel we don’t have a choice. My thyroid isn’t working. That’s what the test showed, other scans prob wouldn’t show that. Like you years of trying to sort it. Hoping this time they get it right. Won’t be having the radioactive iodine, even by choice. Will be operation

After they did it, I realised I don’t even have hyperthyroidism! But did you see Greekchick’s kind reply? Just hoping for the best, hugs xxxxxxx

I’m hypothyroid. But large swellings, I have a normal ultra sound this week. Possible needle test, it’s a little scary. But I know now, someone is doing something about it. So many nice people on here to give us advise and help.
