Needing Advice Please

Hi everyone , sorry post is so late , been trying to work out what I'm needing to say , totally fog brained at moment, but am going to try .

Went today to pharmacist to pick up my prescription meds , when I was there I was told I was not going to get the T3 , and the doctor had demanded that I have a blood test before he would consider reinstating T3 . I have now got an appointment with him in the morning and blood test straight after . As you know from previous posts I was prescribed T3 by an endo , which came a little as a shock as i never asked for it , but i welcomed it , i never even asked to see an endo , anyway , at that time I was taking 75mcg / 100mcg levothyroxine alternate days , he told me I was to reduce levo to 50mcg daily along with 20mcg T3 , i thought that was a little odd , so asked for advice from the good people on this forum .

The majority of you said , no way , that is the wrong dose to start your on , he's setting you up to fail , so took that advice and have been taking 75mcg levothyroxine and 10mcg liothyronine daily , apart from all that has been going on , ie ; small stroke , horner's syndrome , and the lumps and swellings on left side of neck and the raspyness of my voice , i do feel like I have made a few improvements in the way im feeling, so definitely don't want the T3 to stop , now the blood test , do I do this fasting or take meds as normal please ?? Some advice would be deeply appreciated , do I pretend I'm taking what he prescribed , or do I be honest and tell him straight, what I've been taking ?? As im in a real pickle as to what to do 😕😕

Thyroid blood tests should be done no later than 9am, fast overnight from evening meal, water only to drink before blood test.

Last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before test.

Last dose of T3 should be 8-12 hours before test.

These are patient to patient tips which we don't discuss with doctors or phlebotomists.

It's up to you what you say about dose. If it was me I'd say something like I was a bit worried about starting with 20mcg T3 so I decided to take it slowly and just started with XXmcg to see how I felt and build the dose up slowly.

Hi SeasideSusie, ;sorry took so long to get back to you , was just off to bed when I wrote post , then been rushing about with appointments all morning ,

Thankyou for advice, fasted for blood test , and when I get results back and speak to doctor , i will be honest with him , I think i would of been honest with him anyway , but just wanted to hear other people's views as was worried the T3 would be stopped . I did see gp today aswell about lumps and swellings that have now spread from the neck and are also now along the front of my collar bone , he is sending me for tests as an urgent referral, so also hope that comes through quite quickly , he also gave me a new script for the T3 20mcg , but it's a different make as to what I have been taking , i am taking Teva liothyronine sodium at the moment , the one I just picked up is 20mcg liothyronine sodium, , but made by Morningside healthcare Ltd, I've read on the forum that some makes can make you feel worse and I can't say I've ever heard of Morningside, has anyone here heard of them ?? But I guess at end of day it's just trial and error

Will keep you updated , thanks again ☺

Unlike others, I always tell my GP and endo exactly what I am taking. I want them (everyone in fact) to be up-front and honest with me and therefore it seems only right to be the same with others. Also if you don't explain what you are actually taking, there is no chance of them being able to guide you and finely adjust your dose until it is just right for you.

I have had a difficult time with my rather obstructive GP but in the long run I have found honesty has paid off and would encourage you to be the same. If we want to be able to trust our doctors, I think we have to demonstrate our own trustworthiness.

Best of luck

Thankyou for that thyr01d, yes i agree , it is always better to be honest , but this being a new situation for me and didn't want to loose the T3 as it does seem to be helping , just wanted to hear another point of view , but knowing myself the type of person I am , I will be totally honest with them when I see them .

Thanks once again ☺

Yes, I am sorry, I didn't mean to imply you were not honest, think my high horse rather carried me away!!!

Hi thyr01d , please don't apologise, I didn't think for a minute that that was what you were thinking , you were only giving your point of view and being a good help , reiterating what I was already thinking .

I was feeling apprehensive about the situation and what I was going to say , both yourself and SeasideSusie put me at ease , and made me realise that my initial thoughts were the right ones .

Thanks for getting back to me , hope all goes well with you , take care ☺
