Your adrenals responded well to the SST which shows that any issues are not with the adrenal glands. I'm glad they did an ACTH as many places don't do them. Normal ACTH ranges is between 10-80ngL so yours at 22 could be considered to be on the low side which may point towards as issues with your pituitary gland. Your base level cortisol is low it should be nearer 450-550nmol/Ls around 9am. Hopefully you are at a unit that specialises in pituitary/adrenal issues. Hope that helps?

You should be under a unit that is conversant with pituitary/adrenal issues then which is good. I'd be interested to know what they say.

Are you certain of that range for the 30 minute value?

Normally there is a specific number than you need to stim above- with old assays it’s generally 500 but with some of the newer assays it’s 430.

The reference range for the ACTH is also a little unusual and looks too low to me- is that definitely right?

Hi Bramble83

I have double checked the results on the Portal and all are accurate.

I was told they wanted me to double at 30 mins which I did. But I think my cortisol to begin with was a little low although much improved on May 19 test when it was 151 mmol/L

It was interesting that at his last meeting (May) Prof Hindmarsh said that the new assay (Roche) is not as accurate at the older system & can be 20% out but is not showing consistent across the board, he warned us to check if the new assay was correct. It makes a lot of difference to people being tested to have such a wide variation!

Hidden How do you mean check assay is right? I know mine was done on a Roche elecsy assay, does this mean my results were wrong ?, My GP is going to retest me at some point , but if you have any proof in writting about the assays are out I would apprieciate it. Thank you x

This is what Prof Hindmarsh told us at the May meeting, so I don't have any written proof. You could try contacting him either via the CAHISUS website of the CAHISUS facebook page. He's usually quite good at answering.
