I have been on a treatment with tirosint and cytomel. I wanted to know if anyone is taking tirosint. I had a wonderful results with the medication. I hope my success with tirosint will help someone else. I know it contains no dyes and acacia, which helps absorption.

Hi, tell me please, how much do you get, you split your cytomel?

in reply to hipolion

I take 50mcg of tirosint and 5mcg cytomel.

I can't afford it to even try! Not covered by my insurance (in the U.S.) It sounds good though.

It’s remarkable but whatever reason it just seems to be stagnant right now. I can’t understand it with my cytomel combo.

I have been on tirosint and cytomel combo since January. So far so good.

I find the tirosint a significant improvement over regular levothyroxine. I have been taking iron, because my blood work showed that my iron are low. I don’t really if the low iron is effecting my thyroid absorption.

I have to take Tirosint in conjunction with Synthroid because although lab wise Tirosint seems to absorb better I lose weight. My weight drops too low & I start feeling unwell on Tirosint alone.

I read on a post here the other day that Levo can handle the Hashi flares best. I have Hashimotos so I wonder if that is not likewise the case with Tirosint.

in reply to Clarrisa

You know I noticed with tirosint by itself is not effective. I take it seems have lost its efficacy overtime. I just haven’t felt normal in a long time, I wish things would work out but they have not.

in reply to Clarrisa

I am taking both cytomel and tirosint, whenever I get off the cytomel. I start feel bad.

I should have mentioned that I have been under a lot of stress recently with the decline & loss of my dog. To be sure that complicates the picture. All I know though is that I am unable to stabilize my weight unless I cut back on Tirosint.

I am glad you found a combination that is more effective for you. I use to love the days I just took Tirosint before, so I have to agree over time the body’s response to it seems to alter.

in reply to Clarrisa

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. Yeah the body does alter with time.

Hi MorganLeesoso are you in the US or UK? I’m in the UK and need to find a way of getting it!

in reply to Newbie19

I’m in the USA and I’m sure tirosint is available in the UK. It was first developed in italy and it was approved in Europe it wasn’t approved yet in the US until like 10 years ago.

It is effectively NOT available in the UK.

Technically, it could be ordered as a special but it is very unlikely that an NHS prescriber would do so.

A private prescription could be sent to a pharmacy which is willing to dispense against that - but I do not know of any. It appears brexit will stop UK prescriptions being used in the EU.

The manufacturer is ibsen and I know they made alot of improvements with hormone prescription because it use to be 28 liquid levothyroxine and it’s 30 pills. I am going to write to the manufacturer because I know it should be made available in the UK. The good thing is once you get a private prescription in the US then you should be able to get at least a 6 months supply. I know here in the states that my doctor gives samples. I hope Ibsen could possibly work with your doctor on maybe ordering samples.

There are difficulties in that IBSA would probably not find a large enough market to bother with. After all, at the price it is, it is extremely unlikely to be prescribed on the NHS and that is the primary market in the UK.

in reply to helvella

Yes it’s true I always like to find a way, and I know tirosint saved me considerably considering my past treatment on prescription thyroid hormone. I take it and it feels almost like I feel normal again.

in reply to helvella

I will do some research on my end with my doctor I guess ask her a hypothetical question on obtaining a supply from it being prescribed from the US to UK.
