Unresolved thyroid condition

I posted a couple of months ago results from medichecks and historical NHS tests. Since then I have had several visits to the GP who refused to acknowledge medicheck tests (which included T3 and vitamin analysis). I had further NHS tests done which contradicted private tests and which I simply do not understand. Instead liver function was elevated and doctor asked about drinking (moderately on social occasions). I am a teacher and notice that my voice regularly disappears and becomes hoarse and I feel as if there might be something in throat. The GP has referred me to ENT. This is because a referral 4 months ago was sent back to GP. I had been waiting to see endocronologist and on phoning to find out where I was in the system, I found out this was the case. Today I had another appointment with a different GP who said my previous bloods did not indicate any thyroid disorder despite a battery of symptoms. He said there was nothing that could be done and the consultant can refuse the case if bloods appear normal. More bloods were taken today and GP will phone next week. Aside from that, it seems nothing will be done other than the offer of antidepressants. This is because I dared to ask about T3. I may or may not need this but I am not well at the moment. I have been following a gluten free diet and invested in high quality vitamins to bring up to optimum levels. I think I may need to go private and have the list from Dionne. What information would the consultant require? Can anyone advise?

What are the results of the GP tests? Can you post them with their reference ranges please.

Did you do the test under the correct conditions

* Early morning, no later than 9am

* Fast overnight from evening meal/supper, drinking water only before the test

* Last dose of Levo 24 hours before test

What vitamins have you bought and what are you taking now?

Vit D was very low and it may take a while for that to increase to the recommended level.

I gave up with the medics after a few years of buffoonery & ignoring symptoms.

I couldn't afford a private consultant as well as the tests, meds & supplements, so opted for self-medicating. One of the best decisions I've ever made!

Janey

One is the Doctors’ Laboratory, can’t temeber the other.

My Medichecks tests are returned to County Pathology (in a bright pink envelope) :)

Sugges you get bloods retested by Medichecks to see if Folate and vitamin D are now improved and consider either seeing an endocrinologist privately for possible T3 prescription or self medicating

Come back with new post once you get results and ranges

Thank you. I’ll post latest results next week and then go with medichecks again.

I believe you are in Scotland. There was a huge effort on behalf of the Scottish Parliament and a member who needed T3 herself. I shall look for a couple of past posts.

At the last Debate, Elaine Smith, MP, stated that anyone in Scotland who needed other than levothyroxine should be prescribed i.e. NDT, T3/T4 or T3.

Lorraine Cleaver was the instigator and her story was another awful one:-

These women are amazing. GPs however are point blank refusing to acknowledge any of this. I was pretty much told there is no point coming back if the bloods appear normal. I’m shocked at all these stories but realise I don’t need antidepressants and there are many like me. I had the courage today to say that and wish I had known all of this years ago. Like Lorraine, I have trusted and accepted what doctors have said.

I think I'd contact The Scottish Parliament ie Elaine Smith and any other member who spoke in favour of individual assessments.
