Can anyone shed light on my results pls?

Hello,

This is my first post. I am amazed by what a kind and helpful forum this is for people suffering from thyroid dysfunction. So heartening in a world where such conditions are tremendously confusing and lonely making.

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to shed some light on my not-so-urgent case? I feel guilty even asking for help in this forum when people are truly suffering but I’m not sure where else to turn.

My story is that I went to see an endrocrinologist (I’m British but I live in Barcelona) after having and breastfeeding two babies in succession plus 1 miscarriage. I had lost a lot of weight, I had insomnia, horrible pms and mood swings and fatigue issues - but what really bothered me was the steady thinning of my hair. It had become thin in my late twenties but after having kids, it became very thin. I expected the private endo to say I had too much testosterone or something (I was pretty ignorant) but after she received my blood results she sent me an email with a prescription for 25mg of Levothyroxine, 0,266mg Vitamin D tablets and 80mg of iron tablets. I couldn’t get another appointment with her (she’s very popular) and I was in a state of confusion from her email. I googled Levothyroxine to find out what it was and that was how I discovered it treated hypothyroidism. I called the doctor and she told me I was hypothyroid and to make an appointment with her in 6 months. I didn’t though :( I was confused and I felt she was maybe a pill pusher and I thought I was fine and just run down after babies. Instead I concentrated on eating and sleeping properly. Fast Fwd 2 years and my symptoms haven’t disappeared so I have only now started on the regime the doctor prescribed 2 years ago. I do feel dizzy a lot and my vision is blurred. Could this be the Levothyroxine? The question is do I even need these meds? I don’t know. My Spanish GP thinks I’m totally fine. But my mum has just been diagnosed with SLL and told she’s had an undiagnosed thyroid problem for much of her adult life so I want to understand this as best I can. For a long time, I ignored it mainly because I have two friends who are hypo and they are profoundly effected by their disease. In comparison to them, I felt vain worrying about my insane PMS, mood swings and chronic hairloss. But the hairloss is huge.

Here are my results from 2017:

Vitamin B12: 409 pg/mL [180-914]

Vitamin E (Alfa Tocoferol): 13,1 mg/L [5,2-18,1]

Vitamin H (Biotin): 103 ng/L [100-250]

Thank you for any insights you might have. I can’t tell if I’m fine or not.

Thank you...

Welcome to our forum.

If you can advise exactly how many weeks you have been medicating Levothyroxine, members will be able to give more informed comments.
