I've already told a doctor that. It didn't impress him! He still thought he was the expert. lol

All we can do is pray that he comes down with your condition. If only the world was fair....

Looking at him - and listening to him - I think he probably did have it. But doubt it would ever occur to him to test himself. He only wanted to test TSH, anyway, I had to insist on the Frees.

Lol hear hear.

On balance i'd say the truth is somewhere in between

Often doctors have neither the time or inclination to do a through history and symptoms and look at your life as a whole /bigger picture

Chronic conditions always fall short of best treatment due to this.

But yes there are many conditions doctors just can't understand as they've never experienced it. It's not surprising the ones who have pushed for the greatest change are those who've experienced illness themselves

P.s. doctors google all day long too!

They most certainly do Google! And to be fair, a great deal of scientific information is on line, so not sure we can fault them for that.

I also think there are good doctors out there - I’ve been lucky to have some take very good care of me. I’ve also had terrible doctors too - as with all things, there are good and bad out there!

Lol yes doctors do Google..I had prize Endo Google Armour Thyroid dosing and she actually thought 1 grain was (60mg)....that bananas!

Batty1, I believe 1 grain is 60mg. That doesn't describe the amount of hormone it contains, just the weight of the tablet I suppose.

Batty1 profile image

Endo thought each grain contained 60mg of hormone not the 38mg(T4) and 9mg(T3) that each grain actually contains. so she thought I was taking 120mg, I wished...This prized Endo came highly recommended and cost me $400.00 for 30 minute appt. I was robbed.

Heeehee I imagine you'd probably be dead if you were taking 120mg of T4. I think that's 120,000mcg.

V true on googling. I saw quite a nice doctor ages ago who actively googled in front of me and showed me the results. It was part of trying to persuade me he was right, and he pulled up a journal article.

Because he was a nice one and was doing was doing a quite good job I didn't have the heart to tell him that one article doesn't prove anything!

I had a surgeon actually take out his smartphone and spend several minutes looking for his picture of the sign with the first claim on it, while I was waiting to be wheeled into the operating theater. This because I indicated familiarity with the anatomical structure.

Four weeks later he sheepishly (as much as is possible for a surgeon) admitted he had made an erroneous assumption about the condition and had to go looking around for the problem by dissecting in different places. This has resulted in a post-surgical complication that may take a year to resolve.

He seems slightly humble with me now, as though he may have learned something.

Thanks for posting!

Double standards, eh? Are we to believe student doctors don’t check out Google too? Or those trained before Google now don’t post their articles online? Pffft!
