Thyroid problem

I have had under active thyroid for 15 years and then 4 years ago had thyroid cancer had a right side lobectomy and had my thyroxine put up, but I feel like my thyroid is playing up I've gained 4 lbs in 2 weeks feel lathargic, cold hands and feet all the time, but my Tsh level has come back at 1.4 can't speak to the doctor about it till next Wednesday when they have scheduled a telephone appointment for me, oh and my cholesterol as come back abnormal.

Ask the doctor to check all your vitamin levels. In particular vitamin D but also B12, folate and ferritin. All these need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work efficiently. If you are experiencing other hormonal changes due to your age then that could affect your metabolism too so it might not be your thyroid. You need to rule out other factors.

Also, check that your levothyroxine has not been swapped. Quite a few people who have been swapped to TEVA levothyroxine from a different formulation have found they develop problems, see posts on this forum. Always stick to the levothyroxine that suits you.
