Hi. I’m two weeks post TT and had a migraine since the evening b4 my op. My voice is weak and it hurts to talk for long plus I feel shattered. Not sure what is caused by my migraine ( I have sumatriptan so I can alleviate it at times) what’s post-op tiredness and what is caused by having no thyroid. I’m on 150mg thyroxine.
Despite being symptomatic of both over- and under- active at times my bloods always came back ‘normal’. And I had a battle to get to an ENT consultant who was shocked at how large my goitre has become. I’m nervous of my GP being the one to manage my meds tbh.
So a thyroid-less life is now ahead of me: I’ve researched plenty but am open to any ideas and want to hear about what works for others so I can best advocate for myself and also help myself to have the best life possible.
Sorry you are having a difficult time at the moment. I hope things settle down soon for you. Get any copies of bloods they do and the ranges and if you aren't up to speed about reading them then post and someone will be able to help you understand what is happening. The ranges are important as they differ from lab to lab but it may be that you aren't on the correct medication yet as your thyroid is t there to regulate for you. Get as much rest as you can till they sort out what dose you should be on.
I had my thyroid removed in 2015 and before that my thyroid was working perfectly apart from the lump growing downward and moving my trachea. I was then put onto Levo which made me ill, after 8 months and various doses I joined this site. I posted my blood test results with the ranges and received brilliant answers.
I haven't visited a GP or Endo for over two years now and feel well. I self medicate on NDT which I source myself. I have a private blood test once a year to test thyroid levels and vitamins. It took a good while to sort out the correct dose.
You will be able to do the same thing, good luck with your progress.
I had a TT 9 weeks ago. I know what you are going through and let me share a few things that may help.
Your headache may be coming from neck pain after the surgery. It is not uncommon to have neck stiffness that causes headaches as the nerves run up the back and sides of the head. Try some heat on the back of the neck and you can use a topical cream like Voltaren (diclofenac) from the drug store - this may help. Headches may also be from the anaesthesia - you can get headaches that last for quite awhile after surgery.
Your voice will be hoarse for awhile. Did anyone check your vocal cords with a camera for damage before or after surgery? You may need your surgeon or ENT to confirm that they are OK. If your vocal cords are fine, then it is a matter of time. It is normal for your voice to tire so soon after TT. Try not to overuse if you can and rest it when it is needed. If there was some damage, you may need some voice therapy. Please note that most vocal cord damage does get resolved in about 6 months on its own.
Finally - it takes time to find the right combination of dosage and the meds that work. Don’t give up heart! I am still not adjusted yet - but slowly it seems my body is finding equilibrium and I am hopeful I will get there soon.

Hi, I had a TT in 2009, the surgery was fine , it takes a while to get the Levo right and sadly a GP manages the medication afterwards .
This site is mainly for people that have concerns , I have now but not necessarily because of my thyroid , I am under investigation for something else.
The members on this site have been a massive help , I never New about blood tests and getting copies for yourself, when to take my Levo and most importantly taking the vitamins and getting those levels checked😀. Taking the vitamins as well as the Levo really does help but get the blood tests first and take the best dose for you.

Thanks everyone. I see my GP a week Tues and want to go in informed but also tell him what I am taking so praying he works with me and takes me seriously cos I need to get my levels optimum as soon as possible. X
