I'm not going to lie I'm super concerned about my latest blood test I had my thyroid test along with liver function and loads of others including cholesterol I'm hypo with hashis as most of you know but what concerns me is my aunt and my nan died from high cholesterol the bad cholesterol levels one was diagnosed too late the other similar and by time they got her on statins she lasted 3 weeks, my gp has referred me to a lipid specialist I'm just wondering if I should have pushed for statins whilst waiting as theres a long waiting list and I'm moving in 2 weeks which may delay it further , I hate when gp tries to fob you off with oh its probably due to your thyroid 😳 I think it's in my family and I'm worried sick , anyone else have this ? Advice please ,

Hiya I'm light brown , my thyroid test was lost but I posted last week but not ranges I only have my FT3 and iron and Ft4 is on my previous post from last week and and I believe TSH too but no ranges I'm going to ask for it again Monday but gp may not retest even though it's their fault for losing results and my D3 b12 all lost so annoying

Also gp says I'm over treated as my FT3 was above range so I dont think it's that

Omg !! How can I treat it naturally ? I eat only vegetables, oily fish , chicken, fruit , bone broth (homemade) I'm 100% gluten free I don't understand how I can eat any better to make it better, I suppose then I'm not optimal it's very worrying as my aunt and nan both died of high cholesterol I'm honestly worried now

High cholesterol is related to hypothyroidism and proper thyroid medication will fix it.

The family history of high cholesterol is most likely a family history of a genetic thyroid problem: Impaired Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone (more often known as Thyroid Hormone Resistance). It causes hypothyroid symptoms and requires very high T3 levels (often above the top of the normal range) in the body to overcome the resistance.

This explains why you need high Free T3.

Statins are not what you need.

No one in my family except myself and my 30 year old son have hypothyroidism but they all have high cholesterol and take statins I'd rather go down the natural route but that's very interesting thankyou for the reply il look into that

Anyone having high cholesterol is practically assured of having hypothyroidism or thyroid hormone resistance because thyroid hormones control the conversion of cholesterol to important anti ageing hormones and to bile salts. The lack of this conversion causes cholesterol levels to rise. Also, the thyroid issue causes the adrenal glands to overwork requiring large amounts of cholesterol, the raw material for making adrenal hormones, so they stimulate increased production of cholesterol.

Your aunt and your nan may not have been diagnosed with any thyroid condition but something caused their high cholesterol.

If your aunt, nan, you and your son's health issues are thyroid related then that points very strongly to a genetic problem.

My mother has had her thyroid tested several times and always normal she has no symptoms of hypo and never has she is diabetic and has atrial fibrillation and has just finished chemo for cancer of the bone they checked her thyroid levels then and still no sign of thyroid problems so are you saying you only have high cholesterol if you have thyroid disease ? I didn't know this

My gp is convinced its genetic

Your GP is right that the condition is genetic but will not know what it is. You could ask him if he knows about thyroid hormone resistance. This is not however often detected through a thyroid blood test.

Your mother's atrial fibrillation and cancer could both be caused by thyroid hormone resistance.

Very often doctors treat the symptoms of a condition without knowing what the cause of the condition is. If you can get to the bottom of this it has implications for your whole family but unfortunately it is very difficult to find a doctor who will help.

Shes never complained of fatigue or any issues related to hypo I just dont know what to think but I'm grateful for the reply thankyou

I think that there are many people in the same situation as your mother. Doctors must have felt that there was a possibility of thyroid problems or they would not have done all the tests. People in that situation have little choice but to live with their symptoms.

People with Hashi's tend to get progressively worse if not treated. This is not necessarily the case for thyroid hormone resistance. Many make adjustments such as getting a lot of sleep or finding a job which is less physically demanding, and manage to function for many years. This will not however protect them from developing other complications.

My husband does not have thyroid trouble but his whole family have a genetic disease and they all have high colestrol it caused him to have a heart attack at 40 then his siblings were tested all 10 of them the youngest at the time was 25 and all had very high colestrol. I have it but I have hashis and I never had colestrol till thyroid kicked off.
