A New Thyroid Subset For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)? The Low T3 Syndrome Group by Cort Johnson www.prohealth.com

Do problems with the gas pedal of the body – the thyroid – play more of a role in ME/CFS than most doctors think?

By Cort Johnson • ProHealth.com. March 13, 2019

I found this to be a really interesting well written article referencing other aspects of low T3.

Thanks for posting,

Dr John Lowe also always stated that the above conditions were caused by Thyroid Hormone Resistance and patients only recovered with high doses of T3.

These conditions were 'named' about ten years after blood tests and levo were introduced as before everyone was prescribed NDT on a 'trial basis' to see if it improved their conditions.

Just realised that Diogenes.posted this background research a year ago. I’d missed it then!

Lots of people will have missed it then - a reminder post is no bad thing.

Really interesting. Thanks for posting

This post on T3 being essential for the heart and recent research showing small dose of T3 can be used with patients who need, but can't tolerate, beta blockers

I’ve had personal experience of this with challenging bradycardia and also pauses alongside extreme fatigue and a plethora of other hypothyroid symptoms despite being within NHS range!

Thankfully I’ve been on a T4/3 combo called Novothyral monitored by an Endo (including reverse T3) and addressed deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and probiotics. The heart muscle only utilises T3.

My heart rate is back to normal and fitness is improving leaps and bounds.

It is a work in progress I’ve found ReMag, ReMyte and ReAlign (Botanicahealth) to be invaluable. Expensive but worth the additional cost as they work.

I have used Remag, from Botanical Health, but not the other two

Will look into them

On thyroxine-only for 16 years,I always had ectopic beats(pauses)as well as regular incapacitating episodes of tachycardia(fast heart beat)

I don't get these on T3-only or NDT.Having relocated from coastal Cumbria to the Sussex coast,my new GP told me he wanted me back on thyroxine.I tried adding 25mcgs to my NDT,having reduced the NDT for a couple of weeks.I ended up having to lie flat for 3 hours with my heart going at 140 BPM instead of my usual 69 BPM.

I have found a private endo who prescribes NDT,but don't feel the need to spend that kind of money in addition to my natural progesterone cream,LDN,NDT & all the supplements I take, until I have no choice.

Do you follow a gluten-free diet?

Hi Naomi8 yes gluten free, mostly sugar free, soy free, lactose/casein free.

I’m digging deeper with a Viome test results due back next week. The test identifies the imbalance in gut bacteria leading to malabsorption and lack of supportive bacteria that provide essential minerals and vitamins in relation to our own DNA. (These are required by our neurotransmitters etc.)

Viome make recommendations for foods to avoid and foods to enjoy more of. I ‘m looking forward to pinning this down even further.

Remyte has iodine in did u find this ok whilst on thyroid medication? Always been wary of taking iodine? Just starting to take NDT with my 50mcg of Levothyroxine

Yes, I haven't had an issue with Remyte. Dr Carolyn Dean speaks about this in her blogs. They have a very good customer support service which would answer individual questions or refer on Dr Carolyn if required.

A couple of years ago I was on T4 only for 28 years ( and within NHS ranges) and amongst other things I had my iodine levels tested privately with a 24 hour loading test. To my horror and amazement my iodine levels were 2/3 what they should've been. I then cautiously added iodine with selenium and then retested very few months. I now remineralise with ReMyte and ReMag which I've found to be most effective.

I’m diagnosed ME/CFS. I have other defined Endo conditions but as yet my hormone bloods are within the NHS (wide) range. Personally I think my Endo conditions are staring Drs in the face to my CFS n Fibromyalgia but they only go on bloods.

Do Endocrinologist not keep up with relative reports, studies etc?

I find reading them so frustrating because Consultants will not consider or act on.
