I suffered a miscarriage 7 days ago. I have continued to bleed, but more spotting the last few days. I have a heave aching pain in my right arm, originally it was in my left shoulder but today it has moved. Has anyone experienced this or is it even related? I am also B12 deficient and have had 6 rounds of B12 shots in the last few weeks and am due my next one in May. I haven't felt myself since the miscarriage, a week feels like a lifetime and I am extremely tired and have no appetite. Any advice would be fantastic please and thank you.

I don't have any experience, but I wonder whether you should try to get a phonecall with you GP, or failing that, to call 101 for some advice?

I am very sorry for your loss, being the grandmother of 4 babies who didn't take breath I can understand how heartbreaking this is for you and your husband.

Do you have a thyroid condition - underactive thyroid? This can be the cause of miscarriage. If you have thyroid test results, please post them along with their reference ranges. If not then I would ask your GP to carry out a full thyroid panel:

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid antibodies

Undiagnosed hypothyroidism was the reason for my daughter-in-law's multiple miscarriages.

That's heartbreaking, I'm so sorry to hear that!! I hope you have been blessed since! I've similar symptoms to over active thyroid. Sensitivity to cold, especially my hands and feet, tiredness, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, anxiety. I have lost weight though rather than gaining. I've lost approx 20 pounds in the last 6 months unintentionally.

If you have autoimmune thyroid disease, your symptoms are a bit more complicated - the autoimmune disease means we get symptoms of both hypo and hyperthyroid at the same time. The only way to know for sure is to do a blood test.

I had one at the beginning of the year and was believe I was tested for thyroid which is how my B12 deficiency was identified. Back to the doctor I go. Thank you

This sounds extremely like early stage Hashimoto's, also called autoimmune thyroid disease. Hypothyroid, but frequently starts with hyperthyroid type symptoms

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

This could well be the reason for your low B12

Important to test iron and ferritin too after prolonged blood loss

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Ask your GP to test vitamins and thyroid including thyroid antibodies

I'm sorry that you had a miscarriage. 💕

Can I ask if you had to go to theatre afterwards? I had the same pain across shoulders after a D&C and the nurse explained that it was due to air that is pumped into the body during surgery.

Hi Jose. My thoughts are with you too. No I didn't go to theatre. I rang out of hours doc as it was late in the evening and was told to ring my GP in the morning and that I had to "let nature take its course".

If you’re pregnant (or have been) and have shoulder pain you should speak to hospital or early pregnancy unit - shoulder tip pain is a sign of ectopic pregnancy x
