I would be very grateful if anyone has had B12 injections and their experience with them. I am thinking about it and would love any feedback or advice you offer.

I have had Vitamin B12 injections as I have Macrocytic anaemia caused by low B12. I feel a lot of benefit from them as I am deficient. Have you been diagnosed with low B12? Or are you thinking of taking them for an energy boost? If you have low B12 then they are a must, if it is purely to increase energy then they will have minimal to low impact if you are not low in B12. Having said that, B12 is a water-soluble vitamin so your body will excrete what it doesn't need, unlike say Vitamin D3 which is stored in fat cells and you have to be more careful with. Hope this helps.

I am in range but not a high quarter range. But still have bouts of memory fog, fatigue and depression. Which I am hoping that it may help. Sounds like it has worked wonders for you, I am very happy for you.

If you are low in range then you will probably notice a difference with B12.

Hi. I had low B12. My toenails were terrible. I just couldn’t understand it at the time. I had 6 shots in 2 weeks. Now I get a shot every 3 months. My nails are fabulous now. I’m sure it has other great benefits to my body that I can’t see too. Other vitamins need checking too. Ferritin, D, folate. Get these checked also.

Thanks for your advice and to get the other vitamins checked too. I am heading back to the GP soon and will hopefully get a full range of bloods done, including the ones you have mentioned. Thanks again!

I had low B12 and awful symptoms of shortness of breath, dizziness/loss of balance, tinnitus and loss of feeling in fingertips and toes. Doctor said my B12 was " normal" at 198. Thanks to the P.A forum I learnt about self injecting and it turned my health around. Within 2 weeks of s.i. alternate days the tinnitus went, balance improved and the feeling started to come back in my fingers. After a month the other symptoms had gone.

I've been diagnosed with Fibromylagia which causes fatigue and some shortness of breath but I can feel the difference between fibro and B12 shortness of breath !

Self injecting is easy once you've done a few. Just be careful with washing your hands , swabbing the injection site and disposing of needles safely and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Hi there,

How did you know your B12 was low? I got mine checked and it was normal (actually on the high end of normal), but I’m wondering if that value is always indicative of how B12 is being absorbed. I have two copies of the MTHFR mutation, which I’ve read can interfere with B12 methylation. I’m a vegetarian but do eat dairy, which is my only source of B12. I also have shortness of breath (more like air-hunger, not getting a satisfying breath), so I’m wondering if it could be related to a B-12 deficiency. I’ve had endless lung and heart tests due to the breathing issues and everything has come back normal. I also have Hashimotos but my thyroid labs have recently been within normal. Any input you have would be much appreciated! Thank you!

That's the word I was looking for --- air hunger. Different to the costochondritis I get with fibro.

My B12 private blood rest was just inside the range and even though I described all my symptoms to my GP he either wouldnt or couldn't relate them to the low B12. Sent me for an ECG and then a referral to a respiratory clinic. I was sure it was low B12 ( I'm a lifelong vegetarian, eat limited dairy) so treated myself. Result.

Hello, I self inject which has been my lifeline. My B12 was at about 230 but my GP wouldn't help me although I had all the symptoms of anaemia. It's the worst feeling in the world. It was scary at first as I hate injections but there is nothing to it and I hardly feel anything. I feel so much better and even things like my sore tongue has gone away which I thought was to do with my colitis but realise now it was B12 deficiency. I take 400mg of folate which I've been advised to take with it. Please ask me any more questions if you need to as I am happy to share my experiences. Jo xx

Thanks so much I really appreciate the information and find it interesting would love to get in touch and find out where you get your B12, the brand/company etc. I am hoping it will too make a bit of a jump start into feeling more myself again.

I'll have a look tonight and will private message you with the supplier (I'm not sure they like people sharing suppliers on the public site). I know the supplier was a French company but I can't remember any of the details. I bought a box of phials and they have lasted me ages. I buy the needles from Amazon. Jo xx

djane If you visit the Pernicious Anaemia Society part of Health Unlocked you will find lots of information about B12 and where to obtain supplies.

Probably not relevant to you but perhaps for others. Metformin causes B12 deficiency and problems taking it in without injections so not absorbed through food or tablet form. Many GP's don't appear to realise this and are surprised that there patients are anaemic looking at other causes. Metformin is often prescribed for Polycystic Ovaries and early stage diabetes.

Yep, had one - made me feel better. No harm and cheap enough. You'd be massively hard pressed to OD on Vit D :)

I actually think either Graves causes b12 deficiency or the other way around. I was very sick for years and doctors would not test my b12. I took things into my own hands and began injecting myself. I felt great for a day and then crashed but was told this was normal. I continued on injecting and really got my life back. Previous to injecting my cognitive abilities were almost zero and I had a lot of depression.

I get mine from vitaminb12online.com and have done for a few years. I use the Hydroxocobalamin and sometimes the Methyl depends on how much money I have.
