At the Stop the Thyroid Madness website, they mention that menstruating women should do the test in the pre-ovulatory phase (between period and ovulation) because the rising progesterone of the ovulatory phase (second half of cycle) can affect cortisol in some people.
My new endo does not do saliva testing for cortisol, but I feel that cortisol is part of my issues. And those issues seem exacerbated during the ovulatory phase (which could in part be a ovarian hormone issue). Today, my endo did a draw of my ovarian hormones because I am 7 days post ovulation.
So my question is, does it really matter all that much where in the cycle I am for the cortisol saliva testing? If it does matter, would it make more sense to do the saliva testing on Sunday (close in time to my ovarian hormone draw) since I have more intense symptoms then? Or is it better to wait another 10 days to be in the pre-ovulatory phase to get "more accurate" results?
Unfortunately, I have to pay for this test out of pocket, and I can't really afford a second kit in the near future - so I want to make the best use of this one.
