MY first visit was in December 2018

I started at 15 np thyroid then 30 and after these labs to 45

I still have no energy, cold just no desire to want to get out of bed

all other labs are normal

was wondering if being on a higher dose would make me feel better

This is my labs before being increased to 45

TSH 1.860 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL

T4,Free(Direct) 0.99 0.82-1.77 ng/dL

My labs before starting medicine

TSH 1.570 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL

T4,Free(Direct 1.00 0.82-1.77 ng/dL

(T3), Free 2.5 2.0-4.4 pg/mL

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab 8 0-34 IU/mL

Thyroglobulin Antibody 2 <1.0 0.0-0.9 IU/mL

No FT3 on those latest labs? You cannot dose NDT by TSH or FT4, you need the FT3. 45 mg NDT is still a small dose.

The first test befor med has the ft3

Yes, but it should be tested every time - especially when you're taking NDT. You cannot dose NDT by TSH or FT4.

It’s definitely a small dose. I’m on 240mg 4grains and 5ft 3 😀

So asking the doc to increase meds every couple weeks ? I feel like it’s low to I know she wanted to start small but wasn’t sure how fast to increase

Or how much to increase each time she increases each time by 15

I’m 55 post menopause

What dose of Levo were you on?

Itileguy profile image
Itileguy in reply to Jodypody

I was started out on 15 mg of np thyroid with increments of 15 mg to where I am now on 45 mg

That’s a really low dose

When on any other thyroid hormone - excerpt levothyroxine - we have to take our symptoms into consideration, i.e. are we improving or are we feeling worse, etc. so raising dose by 1/4 tablet every two weeks until symptm-free. Always taking pulse/temp into consideration and if either goes too high drop to previous dose.

So by me calling her every two weeks with symptoms still staying the same and her raising by 15 mg would be good

Thank you that helps me a lot

This is a link by one of our Advisers (deceased) who only took one blood test for the initital diagnosis and thereaftera small twice-weekly dose concentrating on symptoms being relieved. When they were well that was there dose but if symptoms returned another increase of 1/4 tablet. I shall give you a link and read 'Getting Well etc.

If your doctor goes by blood tests, these were introduced along with levothyroxine, therefore if we add or take NDTs or T3 alone, they will not correlate so it is relief of symptoms that are the priority.

Good read

So the question would be to ask the doctor would be do treat by labs or symptoms?

I’m confused by my labs

My symptoms have been like this for the last 3 years

I am all so have or are gone through menopause

The progesterone has helped so much with mood

But the fatigue is so debilitating

I had started asking my gp a year ago to test thyroid and of course they said labs were normal

Finally got appointment with endo who prescribed

Progesterone and started on low np thyroid

So I was glad that I was starting to feel better

I just feel that the it’s taking to long to get to the right dose of np

Kind of frustrating

I really hope my doc goes by symptoms 😊

I would of thought my ft4 labs would of increased ?

T4 decreases on NDT T 3 is your indicator now

So ive been on np thyroid since Jan 10 so now 2 months should I be increasing faster Started at 15mg now on 45 mg

Asked the doc if I could increase but she said be patient it’s only been a week since going on up to 45mg

I don’t understand why I shouldn’t see my ft4 group it’s only at .99 which is low

What do u think

Jodypody profile image
Jodypody in reply to Itileguy

I think that your dose is still too low to judge. We’re you on Levo before if so how much?

Itileguy in reply to Jodypody

No

You’ll probably settle between 2/3 grains eventually so you’re a way off yet. Hang in there

Well it just amazes me I was on 45 mg of the np and I was freezing cold tired all day 10 days later I

Called the dr and pleaded if I could increase to the next dose

She agreed 😊 now at 60 mg

3 days later the freezing went away and not as tired

I can’t wait til my symptoms are gone.
