Endocrinology referal

Hi all, my GP didn't have the guts to increase my levo dose by 12.5 mcg because I would have had to cut a 50mcg in half and take every other day, this is due to wanting to stay with the Actavis brand as per my other 100 mcg pill. Total 112.5mcg per day.

I need so help here.

I have a list of 5 places, is anyone aware of the best place or heard anything.

1)Bedford hospital South Wing.

2)Isebrook hospital

3)Kettering General hospital

4)Nene park outpatient

5)Northampton General hospital

Thanks all.

Or Days 1-3 take 100mcg, Day 4 take 150mcg. No need to cut any tablets.

What on earth is the problem your GP has? I thought he'd agreed to increase to 112.5mcg?

But, what happened about your poor conversion

T4 21.1 (12-22)

TSH 2.68 (0.27-4.2)

T3 4.8 (3.1-6.8)

It's not more Levo you need really, you could do with some T3.

Hi seasidesusie,

He did do the prescription for 12.5 but only Teva do this size, so I went back about getting Actavis at 50mcg and he panicked and referred me to endo, which may be a good thing as I may be able to get T3 as you suggest.

Just need to find the best endo out of my list now. Cheers

Wockhardt do a 25mcg too that you could probably cut in half. I take Actavis and wockhardt with no problems.

Yeah I thought that as well, to late now the GP has referred me so I'll suggest this to the endo. Ta

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12,recently?

If not request GP or endocrinologist does so and make sure to get actual results and ranges

New NHS England Liothyronine guidelines November 2018 clearly state on pages 8 & 12 that TSH should be between 0.4-1.5 when treated with just Levothyroxine

Note that it says test should be in morning BEFORE taking Levothyroxine

Also states that these vitamins must be tested

Yeah tested last year apart from vit d because they refused to do it, the GPS are so bad here and don't listen even when I have vast knowledge on thyriod issues. Cheers

They all need testing twice yearly (if not more regularly) but you may struggle to get GP to agree to test

But they absolutely should test vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is very closely linked to Hashimoto's

May have to do it private, I'll see if the endo agrees. Ta

Page 13 specifically states 'actions to be taken in response to monitoring' TSH 0.4 - 5.0 - no change required.

Which is probably why I cannot get a dose increase from 32mg of Levothyroxine after 6 months of treatment after seeing 3 GP's and 2 Endos. even though my TSH still hovers around 4 and both my T4 and T3 have gone down whilst on 'treatment'

Your GP appears to be a very sensitive little snowflake. I cut 50mcg Activas brand all the time as I take 75mcg most days. I use a pill cutter from Boots. and with only the odd rare crumbling incident I get on fine. I know others on here use a craft knife, which sounds like a good option to me.

Is he expecting the endo to teach you how to cut pills in half? Lol!

However as you say - may be a good move for you if you can convince the endo to give you a trial of T3. Go armed with plenty of info and evidence to argue your case. Hopefully someone here will be able to give you some advice of the best place to go. Good luck!
