Large thyroid, bloods fine

Hi I am struggling at the moment with a constant chocking sensation and reduced airflow. I have very little energy and low mood, every other symptom of hypothyroidism. however blood tests are all apparently within normal range. I’ve recently had a neck ultrasound which showed nothing alarming just a large thyroid, currently awaiting referral. I do have a maternal history of goitre and thyroid surgery. Confused how I can be experiencing such sever symptoms but not showing in blood, has anyone had any experience of this?

Hi Louise, is there any way for you to get those results exactly. The "normal or even in range" may show definite signs of thyroid deficiency. Lack of iodine was a cause for goiters so do you eat iodine rich foods?

I was reading something interesting and it said when the thyroid is being attacked it causes hydrogen peroxide to exude. Do you taste that at all?

Your thyroid needs to be fueled with iodine and when it isn't supplied it attempts to use chlorine or fluoride.

Try to get your test results. Did they do any antibody testing? Also helpful.

I almost chuckled when you asked 'has anyone else experienced this?' It is by far the most common problem posted on this forum. You are entitled to copy of your blood results from your GP which if you post here we can help you further. A lot of doctors belive that your bloods are fine as long as they are in range but in range does not nesssasarily mean that your bloods are at the correct level for you as an individual and people usually need their TSH to be1 or lower to feel well. Your GP should also have taken your ferretin, folate, vitamin D and B12 all of which are needed at a good level for your body to make good use of any hormones you are taking. It can take quite a while to get well, there can be a lot of obstacles on the way and the need for a bit of trial an error. Keep coming back to us until fighting fit.

Please search google for thyrogold its an otc supplement that is glanular and considered a natural disected thyroid from pasture new zealand cows. It is only sold on the thyrogold site. It will help. Many of the stop the thyroid madness members use it w great results when they dont have a doc savvy enough to treat their condition by symptoms alone. Start w the lower mg dose capsule and see if your tightness lessens. Your thyroid is trying to tell you something so listen and help it! As another poster says iodine is good..i agree and my thyroid improved when i supplemented w iodine. The one you want is 6.25 mg iodine and iodide per drop and this is a prescription strength. Best bought from dr..fitt site he is a er surgeon who gives alot of advice on thyroid health on fb. The iodine on his site is called dr. Crows. Most iodines in stores are in micrograms which is not very much. Start w 4 drops in water taken away from citrus. Add one drop each day until you reach 18 drops. Do for one month. Youll have a complete turn around in energy and your thyroid will go down. The thyroid holds 50mg of iodine in storage alone..one month of 50 to 100 mg iodine is helping your cells top up. The cells in the body hold 1500 mg of iodine in storage alone ( every organ has iodine receptors) so the 100mg toward the end of that month is not too much. Any excess iodine will be excreted in urine within 6 hours anyway. Im an admin on a thryoid iodine protocol board.

But only useful if you are in the US. You can get similar iodine (but higher strength also if you need it) on Amazon UK (and lots of other sites).

I always remind that many china based counterfeiters are selling on amazon. Many of us have received same bottle of beloved supps only to find capsule diff size and color and when emailing the seller they are china based. Better to get from reputable site. Amazon makes $ on every sale and will not remove counterfeits. Bottles and labels were Exact to store bought.

What have capsules from China got to do with getting Lugol's iodine (the J Crow's brand is just rebranded Lugol's AFAIK) on Amazon UK? Haven't had that problem with anything I've ever bought from Amazon (although I usually buy from the same sellers). You can buy from other sites in the UK too, but advising UK posters to buy US brands is not useful - perhaps we don't have the same problems in Europe, and anyway you can just send it back and gt a refund if it is no good - easy enough to do a web search. Probably better not to take iodine without a test for deficiency first.

I guess you don't understand what I'm saying. The products being sold as supplements by Amazon, Amazon everywhere UK included--theres a huge ptoblem with counterfeits coming from China. They are in the same packaging, the same bottles, the same labels, the same looking product as the stuff you trust but whats inside is not the product. I am sharing my experience and others . If you want to buy off Amazon go right ahead. But don't discount my experience of seeing counterfeit supps come off amaxon. The product inside the bottle is not the same. If you wanna take your chances getting something that's counterfeit and trying to get your money back from a China based company go right ahead be my guest. I was not able to recover the $100 from the counterfeit products in Amazon does not care because they make money off of every sale. No one who realized their supplement was out being distrubited via china was able to recoup. My point is to buy from reputable stores and small sites. If you personally haven't had this happen to you, then good for you. But no sense just counting other people who it has happened to. And no it's not just a Amazon US problem it's an Amazon worldwide problem

I've had no problems with any of the supplements I've bought from Amazon UK - they have all been legit and have worked, and anyway can be sent back and reported to Trading Standards if counterfeit. can be easier and faster to get a refund from Amazon than elsewhere. Of course, you should always check who the seller is, but anyone can sell you junk.

Hi there, can I ask please. Confirmed with large nodule 6 month's ago, visable on neck but not Intrusive, waiting 5months for Consultant appointment. Have loads of symptoms but blood tests come back 'no further action'. But on the iodine issue my torso is peppered with red blebs that I understand to be iodine related? What does that mean? My gp doesn't know of them because he's never asked or have I ever remembered to mention, presumed if important would have been checked.

I had the choking sensation and was tired to the bone when diagnosed with Hashimotos. I have a 1.0 cm thyroid nodule. The Levox meds for Hashimotos has helped me with the choking sensation although I sometimes still get the choking feeling. My nodule hasn't increased or shrunk in size per my 4 thyroid ultrasound results in the last 2 years. I always have low vitamin D when tested. I have a hiatal hernia which probably doesn't help with the swallowing and choking sensation. With the Levox, most of the time I don't have the choking sensation now. I assume your doctor has done an ultrasound to see if you have a large thyroid nodule. Hope this info helps you in some way.

I was diagnosed with an attack of thyroiditis and nodule on thyroid...only suggestion I got from NHS was take paracetamol. Thyroid bloods normal so won’t Medicare but antibodies high so advised was autoimmune related & thyroid would fail at some point.

Gluten free, as suggested on here, worked really well in settling...currently having another episode as just been away and lack of gluten free options.

B12 & folate we’re low, so treating them and this has helped fatigue. It seems hit & miss as to whether you get started on meds or not for this. Definitely go gluten free!!!

First you are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges

Important to see exactly what has been tested....often not full tests, just TSH which is inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

All thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Do not supplement iodine unless tested by iodine expert and found to be deficient, it can make symptoms a lot worse if you have Hashimoto's

Can you add the ranges on these results

Ferritin looks very low, but need range on the result

If ferritin is low, GP should do a full iron panel to check iron. It's possible to have low ferritin but normal or high iron. So essential to test both

You need TSH, FT3 and FT4, plus folate, B12 and vitamin D

You can have high TG antibodies, even when TPO are low. But NHS very often refuses to test TG antibodies unless TPO are high

Push GP to test vitamin levels for you
