If you are below 50 yrs of age and have no cardiac problems, the starter dose is 50 mcg, not 25 mcg. If we are on too low a dose it can actually make us feel worse as the body recognises an influx of synthetic hormone, the pituitary responds by reducing TSH and the thyroid reduces its own production of hormones. Also, taking thyroid hormones is not like taking an aspirin for a headache, when you'd expect your headache to abate pretty quickly; and four weeks is no time at all for your body to be making up for the previous, presumably much longer period when it was operating on too little hormone. So the recovery part of it has to be given time, but meanwhile you should ask for a your next blood test (c6 weeks after a dose start/adjustment is what's advised, although NICE advises GPs to test every 3-4 wkly, so your GP should know this, and what is the starter dose.)

Hi Cody6711. I had pain in my muscles and bones and loads of other things, when increased levo from 12.5 to 25 mcg. Once stopped it, it went away. In my case I most likely need to increase really slowly and stay on a dose for a while (8-12 weeks). Some people also have sensitivity to Levo product of a specific brand. Sometimes it just is your body reaction. Have you tried to half it and see if there is an improvement and then increase once adjusted?

Hi Cody6711 welcome to the forum. Patience is needed with our condition and everything works slowly in the Thyroid world. We can't speed it up and best not to try as that probably means having to start again and taking even longer!

It takes a full 6 weeks to get each new dose fully into your system so on a very low starter dose and after 4 weeks you may not feel any different yet. We start low though to help our body get used to the medication so there is a good reason for that. Your doctor should have told you to go back after 6-8 weeks to be retested and a possible dose increase which are done by 25 mcg each time. So this process is repeated until you are on the correct dose for you. It can take time hence the mention of patience!

If you want to post your results for feedback each time them please do but always remember to give the ranges each time aswell. They are often in brackets after the results figure. They are very important as the ranges differ from lab to lab so we need to know the ranges for your reaults as otherwise we should just be guessing!

This forum is administered by Thyroid U.K. They have a web site with loads of info which I'm sure will help you. Please read that but shout out if anything you don't understand. There is also a long list of symptoms so useful when you are starting out to. E aware of them, there are probably things that you have that you didn't know were thyroid related but useful to print out and tick the ones you have. Hopefully you will slowly improve and the symptoms will disappear but yes it takes time and some things take longer than others so I'm back to the patience again but you will get there.

There are also thinks you should do or should do so yes make a note and act on them but don't try to change things all at once. Concentrate on looking at how to take your medication correctly and then add other things in. Make sure you keep retesting until your levels are correct for you and I'm sure you will soon start to see and feel improvements.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, nothing is too trivial, we have all been where you are now so we understand.

So glad you have found us!
