Blood tests on Thursday

Hi everyone.

I have my 6 week blood tests on Thursday at my GP’s first appointment at 8am.

I’ve been on T3 for 6 weeks and it’s my first blood tests since then.

I’m taking 100mcg levothyroxine at bed time and 10mcg liothyronine around 6.30am.

Should I just skip Wednesday nights thyroxine and Thursday mornings T3 then take them both together after my blood tests?

Thanks for any advice.

Also - I’m feeling absolutely great on the T3. I actually feel like a normal person! I can stay up past 9pm 😂.

I’m prescribed 20mcg T3 a day but only on 10 at the moment. They reduced my Levo from 125 to 100 when I started the T3 so I’m thinking that the 125 dose will have worn off now? I think I read it takes about 6 weeks? Hopefully I’ll get an accurate reading.

Thank you.

To measure normal circulating hormone, leave 24 hour gap for Levo, 8-12 hour gap for T3 (alter timing if necessary day before). T3 is no longer in the blood after 12 hours so you'd get a false low FT3 result if you left it off longer than 12 hours and you'd get a false low FT4 if Levo is left off longer than 24 hours.

Thanks!

I’ll try taking the T3 later the day before. Or maybe split it and take 2 x 5mcg.

I normally take my T3 in one dose, early morning with my Levo. On the day before the test I split the dose into two, 9am (with Levo) and second dose between 9pm - 10pm so last dose is about 11 hours before test.

Great thanks. I’ll do that.

I don’t think my GP will have much to say as none of them understand the results anyway!

I’ll try that. I always have a dip around 3pm and usually have a red bull but I’ll have 5mcg instead.

Thanks again!

We are all different

I have found, by experimenting, that I absolutely have to take my T3 in 3 small doses.

Now on 20mcg daily. That's 10mcg waking around 7am in morning, 5mcg at 3pm and 5mcg at 11pm bedtime. That's a dose roughly every 8 hours

On day before testing (testing at 9am) I would take bedtime dose slightly earlier than normal, at 9pm

When started on just 10mcg, that was 5mcg on waking and 5mcg about 5pm

This was on advice of my endocrinologist. When I increased dose to 20mcg, he advised 3 doses per day

I recently tried just 2 doses of 10mcg per day, it was significantly worse. And just a single dose was really really dreadful.

Very interesting how we are so different. Would love to know why...

Thanks. I think I need to add some later in the day too. I start to struggle about 3pm so could maybe try 5mcg about 2pm because that’s around 8 hours after my first dose?

The T3 is making a huge difference in the mornings - I can actually get stuff done!

You may be ready to add 5mcg in afternoon, rather than reducing 10mcg in morning to 5mcg

But suggest you get blood tested first
