2 Weeks Post TT - Biochemistry Results & T3

Hi all, im looking for some advice in regards to struggling with extreme fatigue since my TT 2 weeks ago. I have had an under-active thyroid for 22 years on 150mg Levro T4. Unfortunately i had a large Gautier which recently increased in size and also the doctor discovered an abnormal adenoma on the right of my thyroid which was inconclusive on all scans. I had a TT two weeks ago but struggled with fatigue ever since coming home from hospital. Im on no pain killers or additional medication except my normal dose of 150mg Levro. I had my blood results back this morning and looking for advice. Im considering sourcing T3 from a friend in Turkey to help but im not sure if i take it, it will do me more harm than good. Im sleeping 7 hours in the evening with 1-2 hours by mid-day, im fine once ive had a nap.

Due to get the lab results tomorrow hopefully all clear and will also be expressing my concerns about the fatigue. I feel like this will never improve and im supposed to be back at work in 10 days, ive no chance if im still like this :-(

Your body needs time to adjust after your TT. Perhaps you require more Levo now that you are without a thyroid. After I had mine out three years ago I was put on Levo and it made me feel really ill after 8 months so I changed to NDT and now feel much better.

Thanks yes he’s adjusted it to 175mg daily :-)

Your TSH is far too high, it should be around 1 especially after a Total Thyroidectomy (TT). As a matter of fact after a TT you should be on T3 only to prevent possible lingering cancer cells from being reactivated. If you are on Levo only it looks as if you are converting T4 to T3 but that TSH level will cause you problems. When my TSH reached 1.5 I feel really ill (I had a TT).

Thanks I saw my consultant tonight and he’s increased my levo to 175mg and will review TSH again in a month to see if it’s come down enough or if it needs increasing again.

You may also want to increase your Vit D, Vit B12, Ferritin and Selenium (supplements) to make sure that your peripheral organs are getting all of the chemicals they need to convert your T4 to T3 efficiently.

Thank you. Do I ask my GP for this and is this safe if I’ve been diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer?

Well, get tested for all of the above before you supplement. You should be able to get most of those tests via your GP for free (you appear to be in the UK). If there are any the GP refuses to do, go through Medichecks or Horizon who are private blood test labs in the UK. Supplement any which are showing that you are on the low side of the range and definitely if you are below range. You will have to read the bottles to get a suitable dose. Now, all of those Vitamins and minerals are essential for our well being at any time but particularly if we are sick, you say you have follicular thyroid cancer. You do not have to ask your doc to bring your vit levels up to par since that is something which normally happens via our diet, however, you can tell him/her what you are about to set out on - it might please him/her that you are being pro active.

btw, I am interested: do you mean that you still have follicular cancer after your TT or do you mean that you had follicular cancer and have just had the TT to remove it?
