I was shocked at my blood test results.

I was shocked to see my thyroid blood test results.

I am self treating on NDT, and I suspected that I had been taking too much for a while (in the hopes of summoning up more energy as I have ME and fibromyalgia) But I have been slowly reducing on the advice of this website by a quarter grain every 6 weeks. But even though I don't feel toxic or overactive,

my T3 was at 34 pmol/L (3.1- 6.8)

My TSH was obviously low at 0.01 (.27-4.2) which it has been for years since not taking levothyroxine.

My T4 was normal at 17.5 (11-22).

I was taking 3 and quarter NDT at the time of the blood test.

Could someone tell me if these results are from too much medication or could it be some other cause please?

Thank you

What time was your last dose of NDT before the blood draw?

It was the previous day . So approx. 24 hours previously.

Wow! Then your normal circulating amount of T3 would be higher as leaving longer than 12 hours gives a false low. T3 only stays in the blood for 12 hours.

I don't thinking taking too much T3 will give you more energy, it's more likely to cause heart problems at that much over range for a long period of time.

Thank you for your reply Seaside Susie. I will continue to reduce meds on that basis.

As you have Hashimoto's and coeliac your vitamin levels need regular monitoring and probably continual supplementing at fairly high levels

What are most recent test results and ranges for vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

What supplements do you currently take?

I haven't had a blood test for Vitamin D for a long time although I do take suppliments for that. My last B12 results were exceptionally high so I stopped taking that supplement, Slow Dragon. Ferritin was high too.

I don't have the exact figures to hand but I remember that clearly.

I will have to request those things to be tested again. Thank you.

High ferritin needs keeping an eye on, it can just be high due to inflammation, but it can be high due to hemochromatosis

Low vitamin D and magnesium are very common with Hashimoto's and with gluten intolerance

Ok thank you Red Dragon. I will definitely ask for these to be checked again.

Sorry I meant Slow Dragon

You have very odd numbers there. I had symptoms when I was over medicated on 3 grains of NDT. My FT3 was 8.2 the top range was 6.8 so a lot over but not like yours.

I have no other health problems at all and no thyroid so starting out at Zero.

When I was over medicated I was losing too much weight and had slight heart palps too.

Yes I agree the numbers are odd Bunnyjean.

I think I will ask another question about this on another post.

Thank you for your comment.
