Low T4 top of range T3 HELP please?

Hi, I have posted before but just had results of my latest bloods, can anyone help:

TSH-2.58 (0.35-5.5)

T4- 10.7 (7-17)

T3- 6.3 (3.5-6.5)

I had thyroiditis at the beginning of the year and endo discharged me as he said it had resolved, I'm not on medication and antibodies were negative. I still don't feel well. My wish is to try for another baby but even though I highlighted my TSH is too high for conception GP won't do anything. Do I feel bad because my T4 is too low? I presume GP won't do anything for that either?

My vitamins last month were: B12 559 (150-900) Vit D 67. Ferritin 45 (15-300) Folate 5.1 (no range given) Serum cortisol 329. I take supplements and was given iron tablets for my ferritin, and maybe that has helped reduce my TSH from 2.77 to 2.58?

I feel like I'm getting no where and this forum is the only place for help it seems. Seems odd why T3 is higher end and T4 lower end why could that be?

I really hope I can get replies as I feel like I'm going crazy. Thanks

TSH is not a thyroid hormone. It is produced by the pituitary gland and travels in the blood to the thyroid gland where it signals to the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormones.

T4 is a thyroid hormone but is not an active hormone, it needs to be converted to T3 to become active.

T3 is the active thyroid hormone which controls the metabolism and therefore the symptoms. Your Free T3 is in the top part of the normal range, which is good, so you should not have hypothyroid symptoms.

With this level of Free T3 the TSH would normally be low so your TSH level is unusual and could indicate that your body wants an even higher Free T3 level.

Your unusual thyroid blood test results combined with what appear to be hypothyroid symptoms, one possible cause is a genetic condition commonly known as Thyroid Hormone Resistance. It causes hypothyroid symptoms and requires very high T3 levels (often above the top of the normal range) in the body to overcome the resistance.

As it is genetic if there are other family members with thyroid problems, fibromyalgia, CFS, ME, Coeliac Disease, MS, Heart Disease or depression this would further support this possibility.

HughH thank you for your response. That makes a lot of sense, I'm waiting for a heart monitor next week as my heart races on activity similar to when I was hyper although resting heart rate is normal. It really worries me. How can I go about finding out what's wrong or getting a GP to take me seriously as all my numbers are in NHS normal range? I feel like I'm going to struggle to get any answers or should I see a private Endo? Thank you so much

I am not sure that you were hyperthyroid before your treatment at the beginning of the year. Can you tell me what your symptoms were and why you sought medical help. This will help in giving advice.

I had lost 2 stone, I was tired, heart palpitations and heart was beating faster. Carbimazole worke extremely fast and sent me hypo within 2 months so I came off all tablets and my levels went back into NHS range. Endo said it was thyroiditis.

I can't tell if Carbimazole was the right treatment for you as your symptoms could have been due to thyroid hormone resistance. Doctors tend to rely exclusively on the thyroid blood test results and don't recognise thyroid hormone resistance.

As I said above your Free T3 is in the top part of the normal range, so you are not hypothyroid.
