Supplements - does this sound right?

Firstly thank you to those who have replied to my posts so far. I have spent the past few weeks reading a lot and getting my head in a muddle but I think I have a plan. As my doctor is not interested in my physical health I guess it is up to me and although I don’t like taking any type of pills I think the quickest way to see any improvement is by supplements. So I intend to try the following and see how I feel but can anyone tell me if the amounts and when I take what sounds right? Is there anything else I need to add? I will be going gluten free in the new year but wanted to try one thing at a time and gauge the results. Also I will get my thyroid and vitamin tests again probably in 3-6 months - should I stop taking the supplements for a period of time before testing, if so how long?thank you.

After breakfast:

Vit c & zinc - 300mg & 7 mg

With lunch:

Betaine HCl - 425mg

Selenium - 200mcg

With dinner:

Betaine HCl - 425mg

B- complex - contains methylcolbalamin 133mcg and folate 450mg

After dinner:

Vit C & zinc - 300mg & 7mg

Before bed:

Vit D & K2 - 3000IU & 75 mcg

Magnesium- 100mcg

Have you done anything about your low Active B12 as suggested previously here healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

B12: 41.3 (25.1-165)

You shouldn't start your B Complex until after testing for B12 deficiency as mentioned before.

If you're thinking that the methylcolbalamin 133mcg contained in your B Complex will help raise your B12 level, then it wont, it's far too low a dose.

You may find that taking B Complex in the evening could possibly keep you awake, B vitamins can be stimulating and it's recommended to take them no later than lunchtime.

Some people also find that taking Vit D in the evening affects their sleep.

Don't start supplements all at the same time, stagger them. Start with one, give it a week or two and if no adverse reaction then add in the second one, give it another week or two and if no reaction add in the next one, etc. By doing it this way, if you do have any reaction you will know what caused it.

Thanks for your speedy response. I was intending staggering starting to take each one. Vit D I have started already as I have taken before no probs. I have been taking it in the morning but I thought I read taking it with magnesium helps and that should be taken later in day but I may have not read that and just made it up in my head!

I am seeing my doctor next week and was going to discuss the B12 with her so haven’t started the B complex yet. What amount of B12 would be required if I can take it?

Thank you

Yes, magnesium helps the body use D3 but they don't need to be taken together.

It's quite likely that with your level of Active B12 you may have B12 deficiency and may need injections, so it's impossible to say if an oral supplement would be enough or how much. Don't forget to check the list of signs and symptoms of B12 deficiency I linked to and take that to your doctor.

Thanks and apologies if I keep asking the same questions - there is a lot of self doubt and confused brain. I will add supplements as planned but keep Vit D to am and not start B complex until (hopefully) the doctor tests B12 deficiency.
