I have gone from having hyperthyroidism which I had radioiodine treatment for just over a year ago to being underactive which they are finding very difficult to control. Is this normal?

Are you on Levothyroxine? If so what dose?

Can you post some of your more recent results so we can see what's going on (include reference ranges as they vary from lab to lab).

If you can add your most recent blood test results and ranges members can advise

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common and can badly affect Thyroid

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

For some reasons, doctors are useless at treating hypothyroidism, especially in those who were previously overactive. They tend to go by TSH only instead of the levels of thyroid hormone and many people who were previously overactive never feel right with a "normal" TSH. If you post your results for free t4, free T3 and TSH people can advise.
