These are low obviously

You also need vitamin D tested

Ask GP for coeliac blood test too

Vitamin D was 65.5

Vitamin D is too low. Aiming to improve to around 100nmol. Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.

Suggest you supplement 1000iu for 2-3 months and retest. It's trial and error what dose each person needs.

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there. Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

Do NOT supplement any vitamin K if you take any blood thinning medication including aspirin

Only make one change at a time or add one supplement at a time and wait at least ten days to assess each one

Hi SlowDragon. Following on from my last appointment, my 6 week test is now due following the consultant doubling my dose to 100mg. My consultant is refusing to test for anything but TSH and T4. I tried to reason with them to no avail so have parted company. I just wanted to clarify:; is it correct, I get a full suite of thyroid tests everytime I get tested including following an increase in dosage?

Well that's what we need, but vast majority on NHS now only get TSH, or TSH and FT4 if they are lucky

Essential to test FT3

NHS often refuses to unless TSH or FT4 out of range

Hence over 90,000 members on here

For full testing you need TSH, FT3 and FT4, plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once (preferably once a year, but NHS only ever tests TPO antibodies once, if at all. Only tests TG antibodies if TPO are raised)

Vitamins need testing at least twice yearly, more frequently when initially getting levels correct and working out which need supplementing and how much

Have you had coeliac blood test

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

Are you now supplementing various vitamins

This wasn’t NHS, consultant was private and still refused! I’ve started a gluten free diet this week, never been tested for coeliac disease, take Spatone daily, don’t eat meat but eat lots of oily fish and vitamin D rich food. I was waiting to be retested before supplementing, time to take my own action I guess! Thanks for your help!

With Hashimoto’s it’s not what you eat, but how little of nutrients that you eat that you can actually absorb because of poor gut function

Most/many Hashimoto’s patients need to supplement vitamins regularly and retest regularly

I have so much to learn, thanks!

Often our low thyroid has an impact on our digestion and so adding Betaine HCL with meals enables better breakdown of food so we get the nourishment we need. If you are deficient in anything, that may be why. B vitamins are very important.
