Would your GP be able to hold down a job in a shoe shop?

I have come to the conclusion that there is only one GP currently working in my local practice who would last longer than a week selling shoes. Clarks would never put up with staff like this. One of them has not smiled for years, they are rude, tell lies, upset my children, avoid eye contact and pretend to work and think nobody notices. One of them recently pretended to listen to my chest.I did not know a stethscope coild move so fast and I am sure sound waves dont. What if they did that measuring childrens feet, moving so fast that taking a measurement was clearly impossible. I thinki would insist if I were running a Gp practice that all the doctors should spend a month in a shoe shop first and I would send them back there permanantly if things ever got slack.

:)

Yes, they might measure the child height or weight to inform the choice of shoe, a bit like measuring tsh instead of T3 or T4

in reply to Aurealis

yes and then try to force some poor childs foot into tiny shoes on the basis of height. They wouldnt last long.

Excuse me these shoes hurt.

I have measured your feet, the shoes are fine. I can give you some paracetamol to stop anything hurting, although the pain could all be in your head. Those blisters are not related.

Conjures up an interesting picture....people having feet forced into different sized shoes , upset customers etc...

There is one GP in our practice who just appears to be based on body language proud, spoilt, stuck up and possibly a bully. She is so full of herself. I could imagine her pacing around a shoe shop, like a puffled up peacock and nobody having the courage to enter the shop. I have always had the good sense to keep away from her.

Most of the gp's want they're plumage stroked. 😉

And what about the ones who would say... I’m withdrawing those shoes. You really don’t need them and they cost a lot. You can have one extra sock instead and that should make up for it. It’s all the same. It’ll make no difference at all.

HILARIOUS comment, thanks for brightening my evening!

This is priceless lol, but so true. One gp I saw in my town had never even heard of NDT, she also refused a celiac panel bloodtest request when i asked due to dairy and bread issues with my stomach. She said an invasive colonoscopy was the only test she would request.

Another gp told me for months that my tsh was normal and no changes were needed to my 100mcg of levo dose. He wouldn't show or tell me the results. I ended up demanding copies from his receptionist when I got to the crying with pain point and found the 2 past test results were 11.2 and 14.3 (range of 0.5 to 3.5). I often wonder if some doctors went to clown school instead of medical college. They certainly have to be joking with half the B.S. some have tried to pull on me in the past

Not having heard of NDT is not a sin.

The most common names in literature are Desiccated Thyroid Extract, Thyroid USP and Armour Thyroid.

I had told her the full name and even googled it for her on my phone. She just shook her head as she read it and told me that she had never heard of it.

I have been told NDT .... does not work (true for some, then changed it to.... its is unreliable then 'I do not treat hypothyroidism that way'.

Another doctor told mr he was not bright enough to prescribe compound medications but would follow how I have been treated.

I travel back to Brisbane once a year to see my doctor bit do blood tests every 3 - 4 months as the doctor has told me what to look for on the test results. We are currently travelling around Aus in our van.

My NDT is a compound capsule prepared by a compounding chemist and is not covered under our PBS system in Australia, it is classed as a 'private' script.

My TSH was .78 snd the lab refused to test for t3 and t3 as requested.

In that case I am a mirage!

bonnyaus profile image
bonnyaus in reply to TSH110

Yes, I more or less said that to one of the doctors. I do stand my ground and insist but then I have to tell them how to write the script so I keep a photo copy and get them to copy it.

Neat idea - sounds like you have them eating out of your hand 👍🏽

bonnyaus profile image

Not really, I just do not put up with BS anymore or people telling me how I feel which is them basicly invalidating me and my opinion about my health. Too much water under the bridge with very bad doctoring.

Yes I accord wholeheartedly that it is disrespectful and totally unacceptable behaviour and needs immediate robust challenge. I am not suffering just to kowtow to some doctor out of a misplaced and archaic idea that they are somehow superior, requiring unquestioning deference and obeyence. Luckily I have had some pretty good ones over the years but some have been lacking in thyroid knowledge through poor training and a very few were simply awful doctors and awful people - ditched ASAP.

The career is attracting a different sort of person these days. My doctor in the 70s/80s had worked her socks off and got her children packed off to a good boarding school so she could be on call and never give up learning. She never patronised the patient and wrote in a notebook as you mentioned symptoms.

The ones I see these days are distracted at best, and some are just sleepwalking though the day despite doing the bare minimum of hours. It is equally true for both sexes, that modern GP's often lack stamina and attention span.

in reply to HLAB35

Agreed, they moan about long hours and they don't even do any OOH (out of hours) work anymore. They seem bored and irritated when you enter their surgery room.

HLAB35 profile image

I think that these days they feel entitled which is such a terrible attribute for anybody in a well paid profession. They used to feel responsible for their patient and would be loathe to make mistakes.

Architects and engineers are far more concerned about doing a good job than medics.

And yet both architects and engineers are paid much, much less! And architects take 7-12 years to qualify. I don't really rate the gp system I've always thought it should be a rota of hospital drs. I've been going to the Dr about brain fog, racing heart etc since I was in my early teens. It's only now I am 37 and got really ill with a very active job and googled for ages until I realised that your heart rate isn't meant to go up loads when you stand that I get diagnosed with POTS (and I suspect thyroid and sjogrens but one at a time).

Can't wait till they get replaced by AI.

in reply to Listie

What is A1 are they being replaced? I imagine by some computer terminal. I am up for that.

Listie profile image
Listie in reply to

Hehe yes, artificial intelligence. I'm sure it would have a better diagnostic success rate!

in reply to Listie

It will be frustratingly inflexible but we have that anyway. It will not be rude or arrogant and it will give clear options.Itw.ill not be vindictve or deny treatment on the basis of not liking you or the way you look. It will not get irritable or be dismissive and it will not patronise or pretend to work

I asked my g.p if he had gone to the right place of work, he said what and I said well kwik-fit is across the road cos you certainly aren't a doctor . I LAUGHED.

Good suggestion. One thing that just grinds my gears these days is how doctors don't feel the need to add any value. You can walk into a doctor's surgery, pour your heart out, and then you walk out again in exactly the same state, with no more information, options, etc than you walked in with.

They wouldn't get away with it in any other job. Shoeshop is a good example! At the very least you'd know the prices of a few things and something to think about. And of you go in ready to buy you walk out with something nice on the spot!

I always think of plumbers because of all the obvious job similarities :p And any job like that which involves fixing things, someone will come round to your house to do it, and at least understand how the bloody thing works!

I’d say mine is pretty much unemployable😂 Seeing the GP makes me more stressed than all the illness/pain does. God bless everyone with discomfort right now

bonnyaus profile image
bonnyaus in reply to

I get stressed when I see a doctor for the first time and my blood pressure goes up then taken at the end of the consultation it goes down. We are travelling round Aus. Doctors training is at fault and big pharma wants them this way.

How about I am sorry but we only sell one style of shoe here, it has been standardised to suit everyone and goes from size 5 and 8. You can like it or lump it and you wont find anything better anywhere else either.

Great answer to a really hard question!

I dont think there is another group in the history of the world who value thier jobs so highly at the same time as taking absolutely no pride in thier work.

bonnyaus profile image
bonnyaus in reply to

So true and these days they as a group show very little responsibility. There are gems but like high value gems so very hard to find

Absolutely. I’ve had the same GP pretty much since I was born (so 28 years!) and he’s always been awful! Unfortunately if I change GP, I’ll have to change endo too (as I’ve actually moved areas) and I don’t want to risk that as mine is good at the moment!

This pretending to work particaulry alarms me what if we went into a hairdressers and they pretended to cut your hair or if a plummer came out and pretended to fix the taps.It is such an insult to a customer it beggers belief.
