Under range T4 -TSH and very low FT3

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I went to my first visit with an endocrinologist....what a joke! Got out of his office really lost and frustrated. He didn't ask questions...just a couple like how gave me t3? why? I needed to see him? I said that my blood test were flag from the lab for been dangerous low...t3 verily over the lowest rage, t4 and tsh under the lowest range. His answer was that my numbers are good and he wants me off t3 and every is going to be okay. I said that without the t3 I can't function...his answer was so you like to take medication that is not necessary, I told him that all my life I was seen an homeopathic doctor because I don't like to take medication...he said I should go back to do so. I ask for a pituitary evaluation test and he answered that he doesn't like to spend the tax payers money on unnecessary testing. He cut my doses of t3 from 25 to 12.5 for the next two months and order a ft3- ft4 and tsh test in 8 weeks. I told him that I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and what he recommended for that? He said that it is nothing we can do to improve that condition...I ask about the diet and he said not to worry about that either. I totally think that he is spending the tax payers money in a very incompetent way, and we don't need him to do that with our money. When I mention that my issues with my hormones started after my concussion ..he said that it is not a correlation. Please any help would be highly appreciate , thanks.

Sorry to hear that you ran into yet another Endo that not isn’t just up to date on the thyroid but probably cheated his way through the med school exams!

Can you post your TSH, FT4/FT3, and antibodies results? Both the current ones and when you were initially diagnosed. What was the reason you started on T3 medication rather than T4?

Hi Andy, I was taking T4 and my T3 was very low so I discussed it with my good family doctor and we decided to stopped T4 because it seems that I was not converting ...and try T3 alone since my other levels were okay. It took two months for all my numbers to go very low. Looking for test result to post.

Thanks for your response.

Hi Algarrobo,

Sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with the Endo, it’s seems to be a bit of a theme from what I’m reading in here sadly and is certainly my own experience! I think the lead members on here may be able to message you a list of thyroid friendly endo’s though if you wanted to try with an alternative one..

I’m very interested to hear about the correlation of your condition with a concussion, mine started straight after I suffered a concussion too but hadn’t read anywhere about that so dismissed the idea. Have you come across any info that suggests there may be a correlation?

Thanks

Abi

Hi Abi,

Thanks for your answer, yes it is a relationship with concussions. I live in Canada, Toronto. After two years dealing with bad symptoms from my concussion someone got me a book from a doctor call Komer, New Hope for Concussions TBI and PTSD. He has a group on Facebook ,he has an office in Burlington, around two hours from where I live. I went to see him, 4 months waiting list, and I discovered this connection because him. He is a gynecologist and got into this because his daughter had a car accident and her life went very bad after that, depression, mood problems, and all the symptoms from concussion (the thyroid illness have most of the same symptoms too) till she killed herself. Komer is being working with doctors in USA, about this connection since doctors there are working on this correlation with the militaries that have had concussions oversea while on service, they also apply the same concept to sports. They rediscovered the relationship with concussions and thyroids, I said rediscovered because this is an old concept from an other doctor long time ago. When you have a hit directly to your head, you hit your thyroid too but this will take a while to show. He was also the one to identified why? I got my menopause at 39 years old. I had a bicycle accident that gave me my first concussion and affected my thyroid to the point that I lost my period from one day to another. That concussion was not identified because it was over twenty years ago, they paid attention to my broken ribs, broken hand, stiches on my face. My problems with depression, vision, hearing, mood, and impossible to gain weight (I was hyper, my thyroid was over working). Dr. Komer was the one that told me that my thyroid was not working well, did tons of blood testing, discovered that I have Hashimotos. Unfortunately I can't do everything that would help me to get 100 % better since those treatments are not cover under our health card and I lost my job because my work accident (yes, not legal to fired someone with recuperating from an accident that happened at work so I have a lawyer dealing with that). I'm taken medication for thyroids. I started with ND but my body didn't react well to this one or Synthroid, Levo was a bit better but didn't help with energy, mood and my T3 was very low so I stopped Levo and started T3, in a very short time I got more energy. Unfortunately my family doctor was helping me with this and he moved to an other city and that is the reason that I went to see an endocrinologist. At the moment I'm taking vitamin D, K, Omega, and Magnesium plus Cytomel, my diet is AIP very strict, meditation everyday (2), yoga (this is on hold till my blood levels get better), I'm working with a brain specialist that visit me at my place every other week for two hours, she help me with the challenge of functioning on my changes since the accident. I don't have brain damage but a SPECT test showed that I have two areas in my brain that haven't recuperated and these affect my cognitive, memory, processing area and the area that control depression, anxiety. My accident was a simple one, I was standing talking with a co worker and just fell backwards and hit my head against the wall.

Thanks

Ruby

Crikey it really does sound like there’s a correlation, thank you for that info I will start doing some more research then! Sorry to hear you have had such a hard time, definitely worth trying a different endo, it seems most of them are just diabetes specialists who call themselves endocrinologists and then fob you off because they don’t know what they are talking about! ☹️

Send his name to thyroid uk. I know they have a good list hopefully they will have a bad list. You should also complain to pals at the hospital that you went to . That treatment is totally not on. Please complain, that endo is obviously another chocolate teapot

Yes, he is wasting tax dollars by ignoring your health complaints and allowing your health to deteriorate because he wants to spend twice as much money to correct.

Never understood that rational thinking 😪😣

in reply to Algarrobo

Me either, but with my medical handling disaster I can tell you it has cost triple the amount of money then if they would've listen to me and read MY MEDICAL RECORD they don't read they make decisions on your health and major ones without reading. I finally got full access to my health record after 14 yrs and I've been reading lab reports, xrays and MRI and other test results and its insane for me that over the past 14 yrs my TSH and my Thyroglobulin Antibodies have been constantly high and I had a scopes for (stomach issues)about 8 yrs ago and that the Doctor read the results made a recommendations to my Primary Doctor to have my thyroid examined that it's very enlarged and I go on to read this on several occasions from x-rays and MRI and CAT Scan and not once was this addressed until my eye popped out of its socket (not hanging out) you get the gist. I cost my insurance so much money and on going right now because in my opinion Doctors are too lazy or over worked that they just don't look back to earlier health issues..what's the point of health records if the professional ignore them?

Totally agree with you! Sorry for your bad journey with your health and the lack of help from doctors. Thanks for your response. And good luck!

One reason for health deteriorating after a head injury is that the pituitary and hypothalamus can be damaged by a blow to the head.

The output of thyroid hormones (and many other hormones) is controlled by the pituitary and hypothalamus.

Yes, I have been experiencing this issue for over two years but doctors are behind this information and endo's, neurologist and other work separately from each other and that create more health issues because one gives you Prozac, the other ND, and you end taking tons of medication that makes it a total disaster in your body.

Do you have any more information about this?

Thanks!

Put "pituitary hypothalamus head injury" as a search term in Google. You'll get loads of information on it.

Good luck. :)
