Armour and erfa prices

My gp has just written a prescription for armour but I will have to pay for it myself. The quote I was given for 100 x 2 grain tablets was a whopping 367 quid. I know I can get it cheaper but does anyone know the cheapest available in the uk. I could use erfa instead if cheaper.

I pay approx £150 for 3 months supply of 1.5 grains Armour from the Springfield Pharmacy in Richmond, London. Erfa is much cheaper but I don’t find it so effective.

ERFA I didn’t take as it has gluten , dairy & corn starch in it ? I don’t know about armour - There are lots on the Thyroid.org.uk site of pharmacists that supply - that’s a crazy price

I just paid £70 for 2 months supply of 1 grain ( taking 3 times a day ) of Nature Throid ? From a pharmacy on that list -

Isn’t it awful we have to pay that amount ? Good luck

I know ! 😩 but guess what ? My GP has seen the difference in me after 23 horrid years on Levothyroxine! She’s even reading my Amy Myers book I’ve lent her !!! 👏👏👏

That's they way to go forward. Educate the doctors through the patient recovering their health by doing the opposite of what is in the 'rules' and amazing the GPs.

23 years being unwell - you must be feeling great now and isn't it unbelievable when your body feels normal again.

The scary thing is doctors told me I had M.E - I didn’t know there were alternatives to Levothyroxine !! What an idiot I was ! To trust doctors ! The danger is: When you’re given an M.E diagnosis then you ( me ) accept that & I lived my life as best I could like an M.E patient - resting at weekends , avoiding certain foods , saying no to functions & parties etc etc - once I found out about and read Amy Myers ( on Twitter !) then discovered you chaps - why couldn’t my GP & the Endo I saw 24 years ago have told me it was an autoimmune disease for example - why don’t Gp.s tell us about organisations such as Thyroid .org ? I wasted so much of my life - & my grown up children will remember a Mum who always had to sleep in the daytime ! My journey is still ongoing - much much better on Nature Throid but still experimenting as I still have lips swelling & Lichen Planus & still Peter out about 4pm ! (I had actually forgotten what “ normal good health “ felt

Well, I had never heard of hypothyroid but neither did any of the Specialists/consultants/doctors I saw who gave me different diagnoses and medication and even an op.

The worst thing in the whole wide world, is that doctors and endocrinologists have lost their ability to diagnose a patient from ten paces, which used to be the way we were diagnosed, i.e. symptoms, symptoms. symptoms. No blood tests and levothyroxine then - only a trial of NDT and if we began to improve we were hypo and stayed on NDT. Of course it was increased slowly till symptom-free.

Nowadays, Dr Skinner (RIP) stated patients were in a parlous situation due to the deference to a blood test instead of symptoms.

He also was able to prescribe NDT to Lorriane Cleaver who was on the point of suicide, such a state she was in after having a thyroidectomy. The terrible trauma of being told nothing else was available - only levo.

I have also read that after the introduction of blood tests and levo that 'new diseases were named', i.e. CFS, ME, Fibro etc. We can quite believe that now if we've had to run a gauntlet to be diagnosed.

The main problem is that doctors have been told that the TSH is the only way to diagnose and it may never rise (in UK) high enough to be daignosed it has to reach 10 and it may never do so.

I am glad you're improving. Dr Lowe stated we can add 1/4 tablet every 2 weeks until symptom-free. He only took one blood test for the initital diagnosis and thereafter it was all about relief of symptoms and optimum vits/minerals.

I take 1 gram of nature-throid a day and a 90-day supply costs me less than $25.00. That's without insurance, as my insurance company does not cover it. (Just started the 1 gram today..up from 3/4 gram).

It’s probably irrevelant - but here in the US my insurance was jus billed $267.00 for a similar order of NDT. This same script was less than half that a couple of years ago. I think Big Pharma has decided to play the same game of overcharging and gouging as I have heard they do in the UK.

ERFA has quite.a Few fillers in ? If you’re on Autoimmune diet ? It has dairy , corn starch & sugar , gluten . That’s why I won’t take it - I just paid £70 for 2 months of Nature Throid 1 grain x 3 a day from a pharmacist in London begging with the letter S - who is listed on the Thyroid.org.uk website as a supplier

Hi Avidreader , why do you think ERFA contains gluten? On the TUK Guide to Thyroid Hormone Replacements, it is stated that ERFA is gluten free.

It contains lactose and sugar, which I'm not excited about, but cornstarch is gluten free. Obviously you're not looking to take it because of the other things, but I just wanted to make sure about gluten.
