Thyroid cancer

Hi I haven’t been on here for a long time cause everything has been ok but I’m worried about my brother who just had half his thyroid taken out and tested it came back as non aggressive cancer so he has to have the rest Of his thyroid out I just want to know is it life threatening or does it spread they said it’s 98% curable is he gona be ok he is only 37 it would be great to get some input from u guys thanks 👍🏻

I believe that the recovery from thyroid cancer is good and we have members on this forum who will respond re your brother.

I had thyroid removed 2 yrs ago .

Very good outcomes are forcast for this .

Obvouisly all follow up should be done to give confidence to u both.

He will face lifetime replacement horomes which can be difficult .

You /your brother need to research and use this forum for any questiins as they are the very best source of info

I had mine thyroid out three years ago. The nodule was 4cm in size and only one fifth of it was pappilary cancer which is not life threatening. In France they always remove all the thyroid first, not half.

It does depend on which type your brother had too, ask him to find out.

My sister in law developed a lump on her throat when she was in her early twenties, she was breast feeding a baby who is now about 45! Her doctors left her for a year - they assumed incorrectly the lump she felt was a cyst. When they finally decided to investigate a year later when she had finished breast feeding they discovered it was actually a malignant tumour on her thyroid.

They operated at that point and removed her thyroid then it was radiotherapy. I’m not 100% sure but I think she may have had chemo too.

Anyway, since then she has done a university degree. Trained as a teacher, taught secondary school science. Mountain climbed, mountain biked, wild camped in winter, sailed a yacht round Europe and the Canary Islands and generally travelled world wide. She has led a wonderful and ridiculously active life since her thyroid cancer diagnosis. Every now and again if they are on their travels they come home to the U.K. visit the grand kids, sort out their house and stock up on thyroxine.

If your brother’s doctors are confident then I’d believe them. Good luck and a healthy future for your brother.
