Post menopausal periods?

After starting on Levo earlier this year my periods came back!

Not very impressed as they had been gone for about 5 + years. When I mentioned this to GP he panicked and sent me straight to gynae as this can be a symptom of cancer.

Jump forward a few weeks, after much prodding and poking and some rather unpleasant experiences my gynae Dr told me that this is not unusual, stating that hypo often mimics menopause.

However, several blood tests later show that I am in full menopause, but, have begun to have periods! Gynae can not explain it. Waiting for biopsies to come back to rule out cancer, but gynae appears stumped.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

I wonder how stable your hormonal system is at the moment. Perhaps you are in menopausal transition (a process that can last many years)? But I don’t have great trust in the menopause tests (orTSH) either. When undertreated and first on Levo in my thirties, my test results suggested menopause. It wasn’t though, that took another 25 years! A symptom of hypothyroidism is reduced sex hormones and it may take time for them to spring back to life and for the system to stabilise once optimally treated.

Sorry you’ve had lots of unpleasant tests and worry. Wishing you good luck and a fast return to good health.

I thought I had got into early menopause as I was one the youngish side but my gran who brought me up told me her periods stopped at 32. I now thing she had thyroid problems, she already had PA.

So I was put on HRT and then stopped by GP after 10 years. This corresponded with Thyroid going haywire so I went to see the doctor who diagnosed me and also a sufferer and he told me to go back to first principles and take my basal temperature. That showed ovulating 2 out of the three months! So I was in the phase where you are told to take precautions as you could still get pregnant!.

Have you had any blood count tests recently - particularly platelet count? I've had abnormal bleeding all of my life since puberty, I even bled during my pregnancies, and recently had post menopausal bleeding. I have a low platelet count because of autoimmune thrombocytopenia. It wasn't found until I was pregnant, and had to be carefully monitored throughout the pregnancy and since. The post menopausal bleeding was also caused by a very low platelet count
