Is there a link between thyroid problems & rheumatoid arthritis?

I know someone who has RA and wondered if there could be a link with thyroid problems, if so does anyone else suffer like this and offer advice & recommended links to websites.

They are very young with a very young family and suffers a tremendous amount of pain, bless them, a good work ethic , a real grafter, really doesn't deserve this. Work brings unsociable hours, so sleep is messed up. They are very lucky that they have a very caring GP & is very much into alternative solutions. The hope is medical cannabis can be given as the new treatment going forward, so fingers crossed.

I've told them about Magnesium Glycinate in the hope that can go towards offering some relief. They had been on methotrexate and had a god awful time on it, hence not on it anymore......what an awful treatment for RA.

Many thanks everyone 😊

I think the majority of people in the UK with hypothyroidism have it as a result of autoimmune thyroid disease (i.e. Hashimoto's) where the body turns on its own thyroid and starts destroying it.

Research has shown (sorry, I have no source) that anyone who develops one autoimmune disease is at greater risk of developing another. RA is autoimmune.

Thank you for replying HB & for an explanation. I'll have a root around about RA & also pass on what you told me πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜Š

RA is auto-immune so can be linked to Hashimotos. From my reading it seems that all auto-immune conditions start with gut inflammation so giving up gluten could be a way forward. Gut inflammation can spread outside the gut and into joints ... I have Crohns and Hashimotos and from time to time have horrid issues with joints and inflammation - causing pain. Also linked to LOW VitD - something that is more than a vitamin - as it anti-inflammatory - and a steroidal pro-hormone so could work well for them in large doses. Testing first before dosing is key ... happy to help :-)

Thank you so much for helping out πŸ‘πŸ»

I hope Crete is giving you plenty of sunshine today. Overcast here in the Midlands πŸ™‚

Lots and lots of sunshine but I still need to supplement VitD to keep levels up 😎😎

Maybe best to have your D3 tested and take it from there. City Assays Birmingham do Postal Kits for testing - website of the same name - should your GP not be co-operative ! Only 28GBP's. Dosing is usually based on results. As winter approaches you may need a little more.
